Bay views, nature trails and rides with very different profiles define Kemah. The options range from places to stroll and wildlife encounters to a wooden roller coaster and a speedboat ride. You can tailor your stay to whether you prefer being outdoors, seeing animals or seeking the thrill of a ride: the offerings differ significantly in pace and type of experience.

Explore the Bay and Nature

At Lighthouse Pavilion Pocket Park, visitors can take photos and enjoy views of the bay. The 57-Acre Park and Nature Area has a different focus: it offers concrete paths and fitness trails for walking and jogging. The nature-themed playground is fully accessible and designed for children ages five to twelve. Selected plants provide habitat for butterflies, birds and pollinators. The park thus combines exercise and play with planting specifically designed to support native wildlife groups.

If you are mainly looking for a view, photography and views of the bay are the focus at Lighthouse Pavilion Pocket Park. For exercise, the concrete paths and fitness trails at the 57-Acre Park and Nature Area are a good option. The paths mentioned are intended for walking and jogging; with its stated age range of five to twelve, the playground caters to a distinct group of young visitors. These differences can help you choose outdoor activities based on what you are looking for.

Animals and Rides

At Stingray Reef, visitors can touch and feed live stingrays. The Rainforest Exhibit features piranhas, snakes, scorpions, tarantulas and turtles. The two attractions have different focuses: one allows a direct encounter with live stingrays, while the other showcases various groups of animals.

The rides offer different experiences, too. Boardwalk Bullet is a wooden roller coaster with 42 track crossings, located five feet from the shore of Galveston Bay. Drop Zone opened on March 6, 2026, as a 140-foot-tall thrill tower and was officially opened to the public. The ride lifted passengers more than 100 feet before they plunged into free fall at speeds of up to 47 mph. The two rides thus highlight different features: the wooden coaster’s track layout and Drop Zone’s ascent followed by a drop.

Take a Boat Out on Galveston Bay

The Boardwalk Beast is a 25-minute speedboat ride on Galveston Bay, reaching speeds of up to 40 mph. The ride travels about four miles out into the bay. Its duration, top speed and approximate distance give the experience a different profile from the rides on land. Schedules are seasonal and may change; conditions and operations may also vary. So check the schedule for your visit date in advance.

Getting Your Bearings and the Maritime Side

The School House General Store and Visitor's Center offers maps, brochures, event information, dining recommendations and directions to attractions. This information can help you make choices when planning a visit or finding your way around once you arrive. The Kemah Boardwalk Marina has more than 400 well-maintained slips for boats of various sizes. Along with the speedboat ride, the marina showcases Kemah’s maritime side, while nature areas, animal exhibits and rides appeal to other interests.
