Burnet’s Historic Business District includes many historically significant buildings. You can stroll along the district’s wide sidewalks. There are also museums with different focuses, parks with trails and disc golf, and a golf course. This makes it easy to tailor your stay to history, outdoor activities, or a mix of both.
Historic Sites and Museums
The Burnet County Historical Jail was built in 1884. The Burnet County Historical Jail and Visitor Center is located in the renovated former county jail at 109 S. Pierce St. in Burnet. The Highland Lakes Squadron Museum offers a different way to explore history: it preserves historic World War II aircraft and other artifacts.
Fort Croghan Grounds and Museum features a 1,500-square-foot, climate-controlled museum as well as eight historic structures arranged around a fortified path. The exhibits cover Fort Croghan, early settlers, cattle ranching, and the Civilian Conservation Corps. Fort Croghan is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., from the second weekend in April through the second weekend in October. Seasonal hours may change; check the hours before your visit.
Trails, Parks and Golf
The parks offer different experiences: Haley-Nelson Park has walking and hiking trails as well as disc golf. Hamilton Creek Park has illuminated walkways on both sides of the creek. When choosing between the two, consider whether you’re looking for trails and disc golf or illuminated creekside walkways.
Delaware Springs Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course. Golf is another option alongside the walking and hiking trails.
Market, Festival and Regional Destinations
The Burnet Bluebonnet Festival is an annual tradition in Burnet.
In 2026, the Burnet Farmers & Crafts Market takes place every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Historic Burnet Square, in the 200 block of Main Street. The market typically runs from mid-April through November; plans for later years may differ. Offerings include fresh produce, eggs, artisan baked goods, and handmade products. The market is therefore an option for a Saturday morning if your visit falls during the relevant season.
Destinations in Burnet County can also round out your plans. Inks Lake is 9 miles west of Burnet on Park Road 4; from Burnet, public access to the lake is available through Inks Lake State Park. Longhorn Cavern State Park is south of Burnet in Burnet County and offers cave tours. The information about direction and access can help you distinguish these regional destinations from places to visit in town.
Find Hotels to Suit Your Stay
If you’re planning to visit the market or festival, align your overnight stay dates with the relevant market or event days. For regional destinations such as Inks Lake or Longhorn Cavern State Park, check the location of a particular accommodation against your own plans.
