Rockport combines a strong coastal connection with opportunities for bird and wildlife watching, as well as art and history.
Beaches and Trails
The Bayside Walking Path at Rockport Beach runs for 3/4 of a mile along the shores of Little Bay. Rockport Beach is a Blue Wave beach. Its length and route give a walk by the water a clearly defined setting. If you want to make the coast your focus, you’ll find a clearly marked path along the shore here.
The Tule Hike and Bike Trail is a 1.08-mile concrete path through dense oak motts along Tule Creek, suitable for observing birds and wildlife. At 3/4 of a mile and 1.08 miles, the Bayside Walking Path and Tule Hike and Bike Trail are similar in length. Their surroundings differ: one runs along the shores of Little Bay, while the other passes through oak motts along Tule Creek. The Wetland Pond/Demo Garden is a site on the Great Texas Birding Trail. This lets you distinguish paths by the water and along a creek from a site specifically associated with birdwatching.
Birdwatching and Nature
The Connie Hagar Cottage Sanctuary is a wooded inland birdwatching area with trails across 6.25 acres. As an outdoor education center, it shares information about Connie Hagar’s legacy and the birds of the Texas Coastal Bend. This makes the site a place where birdwatching meets a clearly defined educational focus.
A historic live oak stands in Zachary Taylor Arboretum Park, estimated to be 400 to 600 years old. This age range gives the tree a sense of its place in time without specifying an exact age. Here, the focus is on a single natural feature rather than a trail or observation area.
Art, History and Market Days
Rockport-Fulton Market Days takes place on the third weekend of every month and features handmade goods, local food and drinks. If you’d like to plan a visit to the market, schedule your trip around this regular timing and check the specific dates before you go.
The Rockport Center for the Arts hosts exhibitions, special events, educational workshops and classes for children and adults. Hands-on classes and workshops cover painting and drawing, jewelry design, photography, mixed media, sculpture and new media. If you’d like to plan for a particular offering, check the current class and event dates before your trip.
Fulton Mansion is a registered Texas State Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The self-guided tour of the 1877 estate presents the family history and the home’s remarkable construction. This brings together a specific visitor experience and two historical designations in a tour format that visitors can explore at their own pace.
