Nine blocks of original storefront façades dating from 1904, still in use today, shape Henryetta’s Main Street. The city also has a museum in a historic schoolhouse, a restored railroad caboose, and recreational opportunities at Nichols Park and Jim Hall Lake. When planning your trip, you can choose between focusing on the city’s history and spending time outdoors.

Historic Sites in Henryetta

The Main Street storefront façades date from 1904. A restored railroad caboose is on display near the former KATY depot site downtown. Another memorial is the “Spirit of the American Doughboy” statue, dedicated in 1925. It commemorates local soldiers who lost their lives in World War I.

The Henryetta Territorial Museum is housed in a one-room schoolhouse built in 1905. Over the course of its history, the building also served as a public library, First Presbyterian Church, a Boy Scout house, a Red Cross headquarters during World War I, and a courtroom. Its former use as a schoolhouse is just one part of its history.

The museum houses exhibits about Troy Aikman and Jim Shoulders, as well as Joseph W. Hardin’s photo collection. The exhibits on display may change. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; tours are available by appointment. Check the opening hours again before your visit.

Nichols Park also has a historical connection: it was developed between 1938 and 1941 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and the National Park Service. Today, it has a 54-hole disc golf course that regularly hosts tournaments. You can enjoy the park both for its history and for a specific recreational activity.

Jim Hall Lake and Golf

South of Henryetta, Jim Hall Lake is located in Nichols Park. The lake covers 450 acres and has 11 miles of shoreline. Visitors can fish and use motor-free watercraft there. If you plan to enjoy these activities, consider whether you’d prefer a stay focused on the park and disc golf or time on the water.

Henryetta Golf & Country Club has a nine-hole, par-36 course measuring 3,018 yards. These figures give you a specific sense of the course’s size. Disc golf at Nichols Park and golf at Henryetta Golf & Country Club are different options to weigh according to the activity you want to enjoy.

Events and Seasonal Activities

The Jim Shoulders Living Legends Rodeo takes place at Nichols Park over Labor Day weekend. The Henryetta Labor Day Celebration includes a parade on Main Street. Programs for both events may vary; check the current dates when planning your trip. This lets you distinguish event planning from the history and recreational activities available throughout the year.

The Henryetta Farmers Market offers fresh produce during the warmer months. Its offerings are seasonal, while the rodeo and parade are tied to the period around Labor Day. When planning, it therefore makes a difference whether you’re focusing your trip on the market, events, or historical and recreational activities.

If you’re choosing between different ways to spend your time, Main Street, the Territorial Museum, and the memorials offer a way to explore Henryetta’s history. Nichols Park and Jim Hall Lake, meanwhile, appeal to different outdoor interests: disc golf and tournaments on the one hand, fishing and motor-free watercraft on the other. Events and the market add to these options at certain times of year.
