Callicoon combines its location on the Delaware River with a rich railroad history, a farmers market, and seasonal events. You can use these different attractions to guide your trip planning: the riverside setting, local history and architecture, or a specific event date.

On the Delaware River: What to know before your visit

Callicoon sits on the banks of the Delaware River. River access points are nearby along State Routes 52 and 17B. The Callicoon Riverside Park is separate from these: As of September 6, 2026, it was closed to public access while the county was in the project planning phase. Because its status may change, check access before your visit if you plan to go to Riverside Park.

Farmers Market and Local History

The Callicoon Farmers Market is a producers’ market that sources its produce and handmade goods exclusively from within a 75-mile radius. This sourcing limit gives the market a clear regional focus. It is located in Callicoon Creek Park. Operating details may change; check current market information before your visit.

The town’s history is closely tied to the railroad. The settlement was first known as Callicoon Depot and served as one of the staging areas in 1848, during construction of the Delaware Division of the Erie Railroad. Callicoon grew into a busy and prosperous community around the railroad station. In 1906, the U.S. Postal Service renamed the settlement Callicoon.

Callicoon Methodist Church and its associated parsonage also offer a glimpse into the area’s architectural history: the church was built in 1871 and the parsonage in 1889. Together, they are considered a substantially intact late-19th-century vernacular church complex under Criterion C. A different chapter unfolded on February 28, 1888, when a major fire destroyed most of Main Street after a severe snowstorm.

Markets and Seasonal Events

The Callicoon Country Fair is a hamlet-wide event featuring art, music, food, and locally made crafts. Local farms, artisans, and craftspeople sell their goods there. The fair also includes activities for children at Callicoon Creek Park. Dates and programming may change; check them if you’re planning your visit around the event.

A festive tree-lighting ceremony is held each year at the Callicoon Train Depot to mark the start of the Christmas season. For 2026, Dickens on the Delaware is tentatively announced with Christmas markets, local artisans, seasonal specialties, free horse-and-carriage rides, and theatrical performances. Check the dates and program before making plans, as both may change.

These offerings involve different planning considerations: the market represents locally sourced produce and crafts, local history and the church complex offer opportunities for historical exploration, while seasonal events have a greater influence on when to travel. If you’re looking for hotels in Callicoon, your main reason for visiting can therefore be a useful first filter for choosing your travel dates. Check event dates and access to Riverside Park before your visit.
