Central Valley offers a range of attractions for a stay: historic traces of a summer resort and rod manufacturer sit alongside outlet shopping, a welcome center, and recreational activities. These themes do not all belong to the same period: Proctoria and the Leonard factory shape the historical side, while the center and outlet offer amenities for today’s visitors.

Historic Sites: Proctoria, Leonard, and the Gatehouse

F. F. Proctor built the Proctoria summer resort on 1,142 acres of farmland in Central Valley. The name represents a defining chapter in the town’s history. Those interested in how the town developed will find a different historical focus here than in the later rod-making industry.

Central Valley was home to Hiram L. Leonard’s nationally renowned rod manufacturer. A second Leonard Rod facility still stands in town today. Both the former summer resort and the factory are part of Central Valley’s history, reflecting different uses and areas of work.

The Proctoria Gatehouse served as the entrance to the estate. Today, the building houses the Woodbury Historical Society’s Gatehouse Museum and Learning Center. This landmark brings together its former role as an entrance and its present-day use as a museum. If you plan to visit the museum, check current visitor information in advance.

Welcome Center and Regional Offerings

The Hudson Valley/Catskills Welcome Center is located at Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Central Valley, Orange County. Outside the center is a large I LOVE NY sculpture, a distinctive spot for group photos and selfies. Inside, a Walk of Fame honors notable New Yorkers from the regions it represents.

The Welcome Center also features a Taste NY market with locally made food and gifts. The offerings bring together different themes: the Walk of Fame honors notable people, while the market offers food and gift ideas made locally. Individual products may change.

Outlet Shopping and Other Activities

Woodbury Common Premium Outlets is located on Route 32 in Central Valley and features more than 250 luxury and designer brands. Its selection of brands gives the shopping center a distinct focus alongside the town’s historical stories. The number of brands may change over time. The visitor experience varies by attraction: Woodbury Common brings together a range of brands, while the Welcome Center highlights notable people from the regions it represents and locally made products.

Fit Kid Play and Party Place offers another activity. Its offerings include open play sessions, birthday parties, special events, and private events. If you plan a particular activity or date, check the current schedule and offerings in advance, as both may change.
