Millinocket is located in the North Maine Woods, surrounded by thousands of acres of forest, as well as lakes, rivers, and mountains. Visitors looking to shape their stay around the landscape will find a variety of ways to enjoy the water, trails for different activities, and insights into the town’s history.

Enjoy the water: Jerry Pond and Millinocket Stream

Jerry Pond in Millinocket has a playground, fishing pier, boat ramp, grills, picnic tables, and changing rooms. The pond is also suitable for kayaking and canoeing. Along with opportunities for water sports, these amenities offer practical options for taking a break by the shore.

Another option is the paddling route on Millinocket Stream, which starts at Crandall Park. It is rated easy and takes about an hour; along the way, you can enjoy the scenery and observe wildlife.

Trails for walking, biking, and snowmobiling

The Michael Michaud Walking and Biking Trail also starts at Crandall Park. The 1.65-mile loop runs along both sides of Millinocket Stream. The trail is cleared in winter, making it possible to hike and bike year-round.

For biking, Long Acre Trail offers a different experience: this mountain-bike-optimized singletrack is suitable for all bicycles and beginners, with optional lines for more advanced or highly experienced riders. Hillcrest Trail is more challenging and is located near downtown.

Millinocket also has snowmobile trails maintained by local clubs, as well as access to hundreds of miles of regional trails. Those interested in snowmobile history can also visit the Antique Snowmobile Museum beside the Northern Timber Cruisers clubhouse. The museum houses the largest collection of antique snowmobiles in the northeastern United States.

Local history, arts, and recreation

The Millinocket Historical Society preserves, maintains, and presents the town’s chronicles, culture, and inherited past. For genealogy research, it offers resources on houses and high school yearbooks, as well as photographs and a cemetery database. Its cultural offerings therefore range from historical records to materials that help people explore their family history.

Located in downtown Millinocket, the Boreal Theater is an accessible, flexible 48-seat black box space for the performing and visual arts. As a venue, it serves locals and visitors alike. This intimate space offers a specific cultural destination and a program spanning different art forms.

The Recreation Complex includes a swimming pool, playground, baseball field, two softball fields, a basketball court, tennis courts, and a sledding hill with a rope tow. The swimming pool has a splash pool, a mid-depth pool, and a deep pool with four lanes, as well as a diving board, a slide, and outdoor showers; a playground is adjacent. Pool availability may vary by season, so check for your planned dates.
