Bowling Green offers something for a range of interests: motorsport technology, aviation history, African American heritage, architecture and outdoor activities. When planning your trip, the first question is which of these interests should shape your stay. The examples below range from racing simulators and historical collections to walks, a water park and nostalgic children’s rides. This makes it possible to choose a focus without having to combine every theme into a fixed itinerary.

Technology and aviation history

At the National Corvette Museum, the Corvette racing simulators feature realistic controls, motion effects and immersive racing technology. Equipment and operations may change, so check the latest visitor information before your visit.

The Aviation Heritage Park Museum explores the personal and material side of aviation history. It displays historical personal belongings and artifacts from aviators from South Central Kentucky, spanning all eras. A permanent exhibit also focuses on artifacts and stories from the Red River Fighter Pilots Association, known as the “River Rats.” These two areas offer a specific choice: a broad perspective on regional aviators over time, or a closer look at the named association and its artifacts and stories.

Local history and architecture

The Shake Rag Historic District is at the northern end of State Street in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in September 2000. It was the first district in Bowling Green to be recognized there for its significance to African American history.

State Street Baptist Church was built in 1898 in the Victorian Gothic Romanesque Revival style. Founded in 1838, the African American congregation is the oldest African American congregation in Bowling Green. The church’s construction year and the congregation’s founding year mark different historical reference points: one pertains to the building, the other to the congregation. This distinction helps separate the church building’s architecture from the congregation’s history.

Tours, nature and recreation

Riverview at Hobson Grove offers tours led by volunteer guides. If you enjoy learning about places on a guided tour, you can include this as a separate item on your itinerary.

Chuck Crume Nature Park in Bowling Green has a nature trail suitable for running or an afternoon walk. This is a nature-focused option alongside the themed museums and historic sites.

Splash Lagoon Water Park operates seasonally and includes a lazy river, the Surf’s Up Wave Pool and Tiki Island. Its seasonal schedule makes the water park especially dependent on when you travel. Check in advance when it will be open during your trip.

Beech Bend’s children’s rides include the Groovy Bus and other nostalgic rides such as Kiddie Whip, Kiddie Boats, Jumpin’ Jumbos and Kiddie Bumper Cars. This helps narrow down the type of fun you’re looking for: nostalgic children’s rides or the water attractions at the seasonal Splash Lagoon.
