A 117-acre lake, two beaches, and a designated historic district give Kendallville several distinct points of interest for visitors. At Bixler Lake Park, the focus is on water, recreation, and different ways to explore; Downtown Kendallville offers a tangible connection to local history and architecture. Sunset Park adds open space and a playground, while the Kendallville Outdoor Recreation Complex combines baseball, softball, and a skatepark. When choosing accommodations, it’s worth considering which of these interests will shape your stay.

Water and trails at Bixler Lake Park

Bixler Lake Park offers opportunities for recreation and education. The lake itself covers 117 acres; the entire park, including the lake, is larger than 530 acres. You can explore the park on a walking trail, a nature trail, or on the water; the park also has two beaches for swimming. This lets you tailor your visit to your preferred focus: swimming at the beaches, or exploring the park on foot, along the nature trail, or on the water. The lake and the entire park are two different sizes: 117 acres refers to the lake, while the larger area refers to the park, including the lake.

Open space and playground at Sunset Park

Sunset Park offers 32 acres of open space and is home to the largest playground in Noble County. Its focus differs from that of Bixler Lake Park: open space and play facilities rather than a lake, beaches, and exploring on the water. When choosing an outing, you can weigh these options if you’re looking specifically for water activities or a playground. The two parks cater to different interests, so you don’t have to limit yourself to just one kind of recreation.

Historic district and Main Street

Downtown Kendallville was designated a Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places in December 2003. Historic markers were installed along Main Street downtown to identify notable buildings. During an early phase of the project, the Humanities project team of Historic Downtown Kendallville identified 21 people and six architectural sites for a planned tour along the Main Street corridor.

Sports and events

Sports and events are another focus. The Kendallville Outdoor Recreation Complex has four irrigated, lighted, professional-standard baseball and softball fields, as well as a skatepark. The complex hosts tournaments and events on weekends throughout the year. The four ball fields accommodate baseball and softball; the skatepark offers a different kind of activity. This lets you decide whether you’re more interested in these sports facilities or a weekend event. If a particular tournament or event will determine your visit, check the specific dates in advance.
