Homestead brings together unusual architectural history, historic town sites, and a rich variety of tropical plants. You can tailor your stay to different interests: Coral Castle tells the story of an extraordinary stone structure, a historic tour and the Town Hall Museum explore the town’s history, while the Fruit & Spice Park puts plant diversity and culinary discovery in the spotlight.

Coral Castle: a stone structure with a story

Coral Castle is a megalithic attraction in Homestead. Edward Leedskalnin built it over more than three decades using more than 1,100 tons of coral rock and primitive tools. The site was formerly called Rock Gate. The story of the structure is closely tied to its creator’s ingenuity and craftsmanship.

Tours are offered at the top of every hour. If you plan to visit Coral Castle, check the latest tour details in advance, as visitor information can change.

Explore Homestead’s history on foot or by trolley

The “Homestead Then & Now” tour takes you through the Historic Downtown Homestead District and to other designated historic buildings. You can do most of it on foot or ride the free Homestead Trolley. All properties marked on the tour map have been designated as historic by the Homestead Historic Preservation Board. The “Homestead Then & Now” brochure also includes a map for a self-guided tour of historic properties and areas of Homestead.

The Historic Homestead Town Hall Museum, located in the original 1917 town hall, also offers insight into local history. Exhibits include historic artifacts and copies of photographs documenting the people, families, buildings, and events that shaped Homestead’s history. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.; admission is free. Check visiting hours before planning your visit, as they may change.

For the performing arts, there is the Seminole Theatre, Homestead’s leading center of its kind. This adds the performing arts as a distinct cultural highlight alongside buildings and historical exhibits.

Tropical plant diversity at the Fruit & Spice Park

The Fruit & Spice Park is a tropical botanical garden with more than 500 varieties of fruit, vegetables, spices, herbs, nuts, and other plant collections. On a stroll, you can explore the different areas through their flavors. Guided tours help you identify ripe, edible, and flavorful fruit, as well as other plants. This offers a different experience from the historic sites, with plants and their exploration at the center.

The park is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. As opening hours may change, it’s a good idea to check them before your visit. This also lets you coordinate your visit with the Town Hall Museum’s afternoon hours if both are on your itinerary.

An activity connected to the Everglades

Everglades Alligator Farm offers 20- to 25-minute airboat rides into the Everglades. At the feeding show, visitors can watch more than 300 alligators being fed. At the end of a show, there is also an opportunity to hold a baby alligator for a photo. Rides and shows are separate offerings; check the latest information about their availability before your visit.

These options offer different experiences: architectural and town history, a botanical walk with a focus on taste, and an airboat ride with a stated duration. You can decide which will shape your stay based on your interest in history, plants, or wildlife.
