Dillon brings together nature and outdoor activities at the reservoir, along with cultural events and happenings in town. You’ll find a network of hiking and biking trails, activities around the marina, seasonal music and a weekly farmers market. The offerings below vary by season, time of day and applicable conditions.

Trails, Nature and Local History

Recreation at Dillon Reservoir includes more than seven paved miles of trails in the Summit County trail system for hiking and biking. You can include the trails in your daily plans on foot or by bike.

Dillon Nature Preserve offers mountain and lake views, as well as wildflowers. It is open to pedestrians in summer and winter; access may depend on conditions in winter. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are also options there. Signs along the trails at Dillon Nature Preserve cover local history, trees, wildlife and native plants. This also makes the trails appealing to travelers who want to learn more about local nature and the past alongside enjoying the scenery.

The Old Dillon Reservoir Trail is connected to the lake that supplied the old town with drinking water. So, alongside the trail itself, this route also offers a glimpse into the town’s former water supply.

Marina and Activities

Dillon Marina offers pontoon and sailboat rentals; rentals are seasonal and subject to conditions. Sailing courses, lessons and tours are also available. The marina holds sailing regattas on weekends.

Swimming, diving, water skiing and other water sports involving water contact are prohibited at Dillon Reservoir. Check the current rules before planning a water activity.

For an activity away from the water, try the Lake Dillon Disc Golf Course, a free public 18-hole course. It offers a separate recreational option alongside the trails and sailing activities.

Market and Music on the Calendar

The Dillon Farmers Market takes place weekly at Dillon Town Park; seasonal dates vary from year to year. Vendors sell seasonal fruit and vegetables, baked goods, specialty foods, handmade goods and crafts.

Live music is held there every Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Performers and event dates vary by season.

For evening music, Mountain Music Mondays is another option: free music is offered every Monday evening in summer at the Dillon Amphitheater; the program may vary by season. The amphitheater also hosts free concerts and community events.

The time slots differ considerably: music at the market takes place on Friday mornings through early afternoon, while Mountain Music Mondays takes place on summer Monday evenings. If you want to plan your trip around a performance, check the event dates in advance.
