Year-round camping at Hesperia Lake Park, horseback riding opportunities, and sites connected to the city’s history showcase different sides of Hesperia. When planning your trip, consider these offerings by their focus: some center on camping, others on outdoor activities or historical discoveries. That way, you can choose activities that suit your stay.

Camping and Fishing

Camping is available year-round at Hesperia Lake Park. Campsites are available for both RVs and tent campers. If you plan to stay there, check current operating and site conditions before your trip.

Hesperia Lake is a fee-based fishing lake. Fishing rules and fees may change, so check the latest information if fishing is part of your plans. Camping and fishing are two distinct reasons to visit Hesperia Lake Park.

Camping under the open sky is also possible at Mojave River Forks Regional Park. The park is located in Hesperia’s Summit Valley at the entrance to the Pacific Crest Trail. It’s a good idea to check reservation availability and current operating conditions before your trip. Unlike Hesperia Lake Park, this park is especially notable for its connection to the Pacific Crest Trail, in addition to camping.

Horseback Riding and Distances

The different distances can help you distinguish between locations when planning a horseback riding trip. Mojave River Junction, an equestrian facility on the Mojave River, is six scenic miles from the equestrian facilities at Hesperia Lake Park. From Mojave River Junction, riders can follow the trail another five miles north to Mojave Narrows County Regional Park. The six miles describe the distance between the equestrian facilities; the five miles refer to the route north to the regional park.

The Hesperia Lake Equestrian Camp is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Check current operating conditions before including this site in your plans. Mojave River Forks Regional Park also has numerous horseback riding trails. The park offers opportunities to explore and challenges for all experience levels and age groups.

Parks for Different Activities

Hesperia Civic Plaza Park has a playground, bocce ball courts, and a QR Fit Trail. This brings together a variety of amenities in one place. Hesperia also has a BMX facility with tracks for all experience levels and a separate track for young riders. If you’d like to include BMX races or practice sessions in your trip plans, check the latest schedule.

Historic Sites and Local Traditions

Hesperia’s historical heritage includes the history of the Mojave Indian Tribe, Spanish settlers, and people who traveled west along the Mormon Trail. The city’s past role as the last stop before travelers began the arduous descent of Cajon Pass is also part of this travel history.

One specific historic site is Mojave River Junction, home to the 1870 site “John Brown Road at the Mojave Trail Crossing.” Another draw for culture enthusiasts is Hesperia Days, an annual fall festival connected to the city’s cultural heritage. If you’d like to plan your trip around the festival, keep an eye on that year’s dates.

The Hesperia Historical Sites program also offers an incentive to visit several historic sites: anyone who visits all of them can receive a patch at the Harrison Exhibit Center on Main Street. Together with the fall festival, this offers a different perspective on Hesperia than its camping and horseback riding options. When choosing your accommodations and planning your stay, you can decide how to balance outdoor activities with the city’s history.
