A hike through the vineyards, tastings of local wines and historic houses by the lake show Stäfa’s many sides. When choosing a hotel in Stäfa, you can first consider whether hiking, wine, or culture and lakeside spots should shape your stay. Stäfa lies on the upper right bank of Lake Zurich, on the so-called Gold Coast and at the southeastern end of the Pfannenstiel.

Through the vineyards to Stäfa

The hike through the vineyards of the Gold Coast runs from Feldbach via Hombrechtikon to Stäfa and takes around two and a half hours. Along the way, the route passes Stigelenweiher and continues to the Risi vineyard. The descent takes you through Lattenberg, a protected vineyard. The route also leads to Bachmann Winery and ends at Stäfa railway station. The stated duration is approximate, so allow a time range rather than an exactly measured block of time.

Wine and regional specialties

At Bachmann Winery, you can taste a range of wines; the winery also organizes tastings for groups. The wines are paired with regional delicacies. Guests can also learn about sustainable viticulture there. This means the hiking route combines a walk through the vineyards with a stop at the winery, without describing an additional section of the route.

Rütihof Winery offers a different selection: its specialties include Pinot Noir and Räuschling. This rare wine is now grown almost exclusively on Lake Zurich. Comparing the two wineries shows their different focuses: Bachmann offers group tastings and pairings with regional delicacies, while Rütihof focuses on the wine specialties mentioned above.

Historic houses and culture

Ritterhaus Ürikon, with its ensemble of historic buildings, lies directly on the shore of Lake Zurich. Together, the buildings form a spacious, heritage-protected site. The Museum zur Farb is in the Dorf district, in one of Stäfa’s oldest houses. In addition to its permanent exhibition, it regularly hosts special exhibitions and events on a range of historical topics. If you want to visit a particular exhibition or event, check the current program in advance.

Villa Sunneschy was built in 1906 and, following extensive restoration and renovation work, regained its historic, colorful appearance in 2001. A public lawn between the villa and Lake Zurich is open year-round. It offers play and barbecue facilities; their condition may change, so it is best to check the facilities on site.

Lakeside spots and getting there

On the edge of the village is Lattenberg lido, with a spacious sunbathing lawn for relaxing and a water slide. This means that, alongside the historic sites and vineyard hike, lakeside facilities are also a distinct consideration when planning your trip. The features described range from a protected vineyard to tasting opportunities and play facilities on a public lawn.

There are two public transport options described for Ritterhaus Ürikon: take the S7 to Uerikon, then walk for seven minutes; alternatively, bus B 952 goes directly to the Uerikon, Ritterhaus stop. Check the current timetable before setting off. The vineyard route, by contrast, ends at Stäfa railway station. These details relate to different destinations and make planning easier without combining them into a single route.
