Höri combines nature watching, walking and cycling routes, and local history. Around one third of the nearby Neeracherried lies within the municipality; in the village, the high-stem orchard and the old school and municipal building add distinctive features of their own. If you are considering Höri as a place to stay, you can plan your trip around different interests: marshland and birdlife, fruit-growing culture, or outdoor activity and views.

Marshland and birdlife

Around one third of the Neeracherried lies within the municipality of Höri; the marsh is also in the vicinity of the village. It is one of Switzerland’s last large raised bogs and one of its largest fens. The marshland is of national importance. The wetland area itself is protected under federal law as a fen site and as a waterbird and migratory bird reserve.

At the nearby BirdLife Nature Centre Neeracherried, you can discover birds, frogs, dragonflies and numerous plants from the boardwalks and two observation huts. The centre has a permanent exhibition and special exhibitions. Individual visits are possible; guided tours are offered for registered groups. This gives you the chance to explore the natural surroundings through their wildlife and plant life as well as the landscape.

Orchard and nature conservation

The Höri high-stem orchard covers seven hectares, with more than 300 trees and around 250 different fruit varieties. Since 2003, it has been recognised as a primary collection under the federal government’s National Action Plan (NAP). The orchard is also a nature conservation project: old trees and deadwood snags are left standing, and plant protection measures are used there only to a very limited extent.

The marsh and the orchard offer different highlights: Neeracherried is known for its marshland and birdlife, while the orchard features old trees, a variety of fruit cultivars and careful maintenance. If you are interested in fruit-growing culture and nature conservation, it offers another local theme for your trip alongside the nearby marsh.

Walks, cycling and views

The Glattuferweg is suitable for long walks and cycling trips. From Höriberg, you can enjoy views of the Unterland, the airport and the mountains; the hill is designated as a viewpoint of regional importance. These offer two different ways to spend time outdoors: a longer outing along the Glattuferweg or taking in the view from Höriberg.

Llama trekking is offered on Höriberg. The provider lists summer and winter as bookable seasons; check availability for your preferred date. You can consider this activity as a separate option when planning, without tying it to a particular route or a fixed time commitment.

Village history and annual events

Höri’s old school and municipal building dates from 1827, has a bell tower and is considered a landmark of the municipality. Höri was first mentioned in a document in 1149 under its former name, “Hoerein.” These two dates mark different parts of the village’s history: an early written reference and a 19th-century building that remains a landmark to this day.

Events organised by village associations take place every year. These include Fischsonntag, the Räbeliechtli procession, the Advent bazaar, the Spaghetti Festival, Bannumgang, entertainment evenings and educational excursions. Bergfäscht on Höriberg is also an annual event. If a festival is the reason for your trip, check the date for your travel dates in advance.

Plan your journey and accommodation

Höri has public transport connections every half hour towards Bülach and Oberglatt. Zurich Airport can be reached from Höri by public transport in 30 minutes.
