Crassier brings together Roman traces, ecclesiastical heritage and local culture. For a stay focused on history, points of interest range from ancient water management to a temple dating from the 12th century. There is also a village fountain with its own symbolism, the Musée du Vélo and performances by local groups. This offers a choice of different interests: local history, cycle racing or a specific event.
Roman traces and symbols in the village square
The Crassier region was already inhabited in Roman times. A Roman aqueduct that carried water from Divonne to Nyon is associated with the area. A section of it was reconstructed using ancient materials at the Crassier roundabout. This history links settlement in the region with an engineered water supply whose route connected two towns.
In the village square stands a granite fountain featuring the sculpture “Le lien”. It symbolises French-Swiss friendship. The fountain thus offers a different perspective from the aqueduct: one is a symbol of community bonds, the other a Roman water supply. Both provide a distinct point of reference in the town’s history.
Temple, chapel and local traditions
The Temple of Crassier dates from the 12th century and has been altered several times. An arbitration ruling in 1225 granted the church of Crassier to the Abbot of Bonmont. The town’s Catholic chapel also has a special history: it is the former chapel of the Moiry Dam in Valais.
In the choir of the temple stands a baptismal tree, made as a family tree by a large Catholic family from the Geneva region. It remains there permanently, except during the annual celebration. The Abbaye de Crassier “La Sentinelle Fédérale” is a brotherhood founded in 1852 by shooting enthusiasts who are committed to patriotic and traditional values. These traditions complement the architectural history with local forms of community life.
Cycling history, recreation and events
At the Musée du Vélo, visitors can admire bicycles belonging to prominent professional cyclists. Those more interested in taking part in sports themselves will find a public sports ground in Crassier, open to people of all ages. Its facilities include football, volleyball, basketball, running and jumping.
Performances are also part of cultural life: Crassier en scène presents a production by the troupe each year; its first production took place in March 2025. The eleventh edition of the Course du Diamant “À la poursuite du Diamant d’Asse et Boiron” took place on Sunday, 6 September 2026, starting in Crassier. If you are planning to attend a particular performance or event, check the relevant dates.
The Grande Salle on Place du Lien is a 200 m² hall for performances and banquets. Terms of use and availability may change; check the latest information if you are interested.
