Situated on a terrace on the southern slope of the Rhone Valley, Eischoll lies at around 1,220 metres above sea level; the municipality extends up to the 2,910-metre summit of Signalhorn. There are several ways to plan your stay: trails through forests and along irrigation channels, winter activities and a historic village centre.

Discover the Village Centre and Its History

Many buildings in Eischoll are protected heritage sites and give the village the character of a typical Swiss mountain village. The “Anno Dazumal” tour takes visitors through the old village centre to the village church and must be booked in advance. Guided tours of the village for small and larger groups are also available; their content is tailored to participants’ interests and they must also be booked in advance.

The village museum’s exhibits include an old turbine, which was used to generate electricity in the village for the first time, old household utensils and a loom. Access is restricted outside scheduled opening hours or booked guided tours. The name of the Wolf Trail also reflects local history: in 1946, the last wolf in Valais for the time being was killed between Eischoll and Ergisch.

Light Flowers, Irrigation Channels and Fir Forest

Eischoll is known as the “home of the light flower” because the lilac-coloured blossoms are particularly numerous and widespread there. The flowering period varies from season to season—a key consideration if seeing the flowers is a priority when planning your trip. The Light Flower Trail starts in the village square, passes through Langen Acker, Muntertrog and Oberhäusern, then follows an irrigation channel in a wide loop back to Eischoll.

The Meisenweg offers a different landscape on the eastern side of the village, in the direction of Habere: it passes irrigation channels, offers views of the mountain scenery and runs through a dense fir forest. There are eight hidden checkpoints with stamp punches along the trail. The two trails therefore differ both in their routes and in the landscape features mentioned: the Light Flower Trail focuses on the large loop back to Eischoll, while the Meisenweg runs through the forest and alongside irrigation channels.

Winter Activities and Mountain Trails

The Eischoll ski area offers 15 kilometres of pistes. Together with the Strygge-Erez ski lift and the connecting pistes to Unterbäch, the combined area offers a total of 35 kilometres of pistes and seven lifts. Piste lengths and the number of lifts may change; check the details before your trip. A three-kilometre toboggan run leads from Strygge down to the village of Eischoll. Its availability in winter depends on operating conditions. The Winter Romance snowshoe trail forms a loop from Strygge via Sengg, Undri Sengalp, Tschorr, Obri Sengalp and Meigge back to Strygge; trail conditions may also change.

For a hike, the moderately difficult Lufu Trail is another option. It leads from the Raron–Eischoll cable car’s mountain station in Eischoll to the valley station in Raron. The 260-metre-long Milibach suspension bridge connects the mountain villages of Unterbäch and Eischoll. Unlike the trails mentioned above, it provides a direct link between the two villages.

Timetables and Practical Information

The Raron–Eischoll cable car has connected Eischoll with the valley floor since 1946 and operates year-round according to a timetable. The chairlift operates at different times: it starts in Eischoll at 1,260 metres above sea level and ends at Stryggen at 1,560 metres; its timetable is seasonal. If your plans depend on either of these lifts, check the relevant timetable before your trip.

Eischoll has four purpose-built playgrounds as well as barbecue areas. One playground, accessible with a pushchair, is right beside a hiking trail and has an official Swiss Family fire pit. As well as planning around trails and winter activities, you can make time for an outdoor break at these specific spots.
