Torgon lies in the French-speaking part of Valais, in the municipality of Vionnaz in the district of Monthey. The village center is 1,085 meters above sea level. Hiking trails, e-bike routes, winter tours and cultural offerings give your stay a range of different focuses. When planning, it is worth first deciding when to travel and which experiences matter most to you.

Hiking Trails, E-bike Routes and Ski Tours

Torgon’s hiking trail network comprises 45.5 kilometers of hiking trails and 11 kilometers of mountain trails. There are also themed trails around the village where families can combine sport and culture. Their lengths may change when routes are revised, so check the figures before planning a specific hike.

Eight signposted routes give e-bike riders access to the Torgon E-Bike Park. These include connections to neighboring French and Swiss resorts; the network stretches for more than 100 kilometers through Portes du Soleil. The number of routes and their total length may be updated, so it is a good idea to check the latest route information before setting out.

Three marked routes are listed for ski touring in Torgon: two blue and one red. Their approximate durations range from one hour and 15 minutes to one hour and 45 minutes. This provides a useful time comparison; however, winter access depends on snow and route conditions. Take these conditions into account when planning rather than treating the time estimate as a guarantee for a particular tour.

Bridge, Nature and Activities for Families

The Torgon suspension bridge is 150 meters long and 28 meters high. Two outdoor escape games offer a different kind of activity. They are suitable for families and children aged four to twelve and can be played alone or in groups. As the local range of activities may change, check in advance which games are available.

The mouflon colony is also a special feature of the natural environment: Torgon is home to Switzerland’s only mouflon colony, with 300 to 350 animals. Nature enthusiasts come to Torgon to observe them. The population may change, and sightings are not guaranteed. This makes wildlife watching a possible focus for your stay without assuming it will be a definite experience.

Cultural Sites and Annual Events

The Chapelle de Recon, together with the Chapelle de la Gietty (Tracuit), bears witness to the 600 chapels built in Valais between the late 16th and early 18th centuries. An open-air mass is held every year in July at the site of the first chapel. The exact date varies.

Another cultural offering is the Natur'Art project, held annually since 2024. A theme is announced each April; around 20 photographs are then selected and exhibited in the forest around the Torgon tourist office from mid-July to mid-September. Themes and dates vary from year to year. If you would like to combine your visit with this offering, check the dates for your planned stay.

Plan Your Travel Dates and Accommodation

When looking for a hotel in Torgon, it helps to first decide when you want to travel. Ski tours depend on snow and route conditions, while Natur'Art has an exhibition period that varies each year. Hiking and themed trails, as well as other activities, offer different ways to shape your stay. Plan your accommodation search around the opportunities you want your trip to focus on, and check any date-specific offerings before booking.

Torgon can be reached from Vionnaz via a third-class road. Check current access conditions before setting out.
