Village history, a meeting place and walking trails give Dozwil several facets to explore during a stay. The municipality is located in the Oberthurgau region on the Seerücken. From viewpoints on the edge of the village, the entire Lake Constance can be seen in favourable weather conditions.
Location and orientation
Güttingerwald to the west of Dozwil and Romanshornerwald to the east are designated local recreation areas. For orientation: Amriswil is approximately 3 km to the south, and Romanshorn approximately 4 km to the east. Dozwil is connected to Amriswil via the PostBus network on route 944. Check current departure times before travelling if you plan to use this connection.
Village history and cemetery chapel
Dozwil was first mentioned in 1385 under the name Dotzwile. Between 1820 and 1870, hand weaving contributed to the prosperity of the village. A later, precisely dated trace of the village’s history is the cemetery chapel: in 1926, the municipal assembly approved its construction. The bell bears an inscription commemorating its donation by Colonel F. Habisreutinger and Director J. Bär in 1927.
The chancel mural “The Ascension of Christ” was painted in 1935 by the Uttwil artist E. E. Schlatter. In 2006, the painting was restored to its original condition. The chapel can be requested for weddings through the Dozwil municipal administration; check directly with the administration about its use.
Meeting place and seasonal activities
The Dozwil meeting place was created gradually over around four years on a former agricultural meadow. It is intended as a place to linger, relax and meet others. Alongside the historic sites, this makes a place whose present-day purpose is explicitly to offer a space for spending time and meeting people a focal point.
At Familienplausch, children up to sixth grade can play football and floorball, as well as take part in castle battles, when accompanied by an adult. All members and other interested people are invited. For the indoor sports hall version, the hall is transformed into an activity area with various pieces of equipment on several Sundays from December to March. Check the specific dates in advance. The Advent window event was held for the sixth time in 2024; for that edition, 24 windows were to be opened in the village.
Walking trails and an autumn programme
Six walking trails start and finish at Dozwil railway station, Pärkli. As the route overview may change, check the details before setting off. One dated example of another outing was the autumn walk on 28 October 2023: the meeting point was at Restaurant Landhaus Dozwil at 11 a.m. The programme included a one-hour walk in the woods amid autumn scenery, followed by the option of having pumpkin soup at Restaurant Landhaus.
A cosy inn in Dozwil has more than 100 seats across several halls. Activities mentioned locally also include jass evenings and coffee-and-cake afternoons. If you are planning a specific offer, check the current dates and arrangements locally.
