Mogelsberg offers several ways to enjoy a stay: the Neckiweg, which can be walked in stages; the Neckertal treetop walk; and culture in Mogelsberg. Anyone looking for accommodation can first decide whether to focus on hiking, the world of the forest or cultural events. These activities appeal to different interests and do not need to be combined into a fixed daily itinerary.

Mogelsberg in the Neckertal

The village lies in the Neckertal above the River Necker, at an elevation of 755 metres above sea level. The area of the former municipality is a separate matter: it extended from the Necker at 600 metres to the Wilkethöchi at 1,175 metres above sea level. These elevations therefore provide both a reference point for the village and the broader context of the former municipal area.

Paths through meadows, forests and treetops

The Neckiweg is a circular trail divided into six stages. It crosses meadows and forests, passes over various bridges and footbridges, and follows streams and rapids to scenic spots in the Neckertal. The trail is family-friendly and has rest areas where you can stop and relax. Its stages, landscape and rest spots shape this hiking option; the six sections are a useful guide when planning your own route.

The Neckertal treetop walk offers a different perspective on the forest: it runs for 500 metres through the treetops of the Toggenburg forest. The path is 4 to 15 metres above the ground, while the viewing platform reaches a height of 55 metres. These are two different height measurements: one describes the path above the ground, the other the platform. The visitor centre also has an interactive exhibition about the forests of the Neckertal.

Culture in Mogelsberg

Since 1985, Culture in Mogelsberg has presented music, cabaret and theatre. The address is Dorfstrasse 16, 9122 Mogelsberg; please check it again before your visit. For some events, a reservation may include admission and dinner at the Rössli from 5:30 p.m. As package details can change, check what your reservation includes for the specific event.

The Mogelsberg cultural route also passes a specific cultural landmark: it crosses a covered wooden bridge. This sets it apart from the Neckiweg as described, which connects meadows, forests, bridges and footbridges, as well as streams and rapids. When planning, visitors who want to choose a focus can weigh up a staged hike, the treetop walk or a cultural programme.

Plan your journey and accommodation

Mogelsberg can be reached by SBB via St. Gallen and Herisau, or via Wil and Lichtensteig. Check the timetable for your travel date. The SĂĽdostbahn railway line between St. Gallen and Wattwil bypasses Mogelsberg in a loop.

For hiking, consider the Neckiweg and its rest areas; visitors interested in the forest can plan a visit to the treetop walk and the exhibition at the visitor centre. Those interested in culture can plan around the events and check reservation details in advance.
