Unteriberg is in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland. Winter sports in Hoch-Ybrig, mountain lakes with different fishing conditions, and cultural sites in the village offer a range of ways to spend your trip. For planning, it is worth deciding first which activity you want to do: access and use of some lakes are subject to certain conditions, while the meeting area and historic sites appeal to other interests.

Winter in Hoch-Ybrig

The Hoch-Ybrig ski area stretches between Unteriberg and Oberiberg. It offers ski runs of all difficulty levels for skiing and snowboarding, as well as cross-country ski trails, toboggan runs and snowshoe tours. This gives you a range of winter activities to choose from, from downhill skiing to cross-country skiing, sledding and snowshoeing.

Mountain lakes: use and access

Seeblisee is set in an idyllic mountain landscape within the Hoch-Ybrig hiking area. You can reach it on the Weglosen–Seebli 3S cable car; from the mountain station, it is a few minutes’ walk to the lake. During the cable car’s operating hours, Seeblisee is open exclusively to fly fishing. Check the cable car timetable when planning your visit, as use of the lake is tied to its operating hours.

Sitysee in Waag is an artificial lake used exclusively for fly fishing. It is home to brown trout, rainbow trout and char. You can reach it by public transport via the Waag stop; from there, the walk takes about nine minutes. Check the current fishing regulations before heading out to fish.

At Sihlseeli, at an elevation of 1,896 metres, char can be caught until the end of October, provided the mountain lake is ice-free. The fishing trip can be combined with marked hiking trails of varying difficulty. From Gribschli, the walk to Sihlseeli takes about one and a half to two hours and is only possible on foot. The walking times mentioned therefore differ significantly: the walk from Waag stop to Sitysee takes around nine minutes, compared with about one and a half to two hours from Gribschli to Sihlseeli. Check the current regulations and seasonal dates before visiting Sihlseeli.

Culture and meeting places

The Unteriberg meeting area combines a large playground with various wooden play structures and a large square with a fire pit. The area and its toilets are wheelchair accessible; a free car park is right next to the park. The artworks there include depictions of trolls, a gnome, Winnie the Pooh, Paddington, Puss in Boots, a witch and Rapunzel.

The cultural trail is also one of the paths and hiking routes in the area around Unteriberg. One historic landmark is St. Josef’s Church on the Herti: it was consecrated as a chaplaincy church in October 1873. A family swing was installed at Hirschfluh in 2025. Also in 2025, a Gruebi was built there as a place for locals and visitors, with a view of Unteriberg. Check the condition of the swing and Gruebi before your visit.
