Sattel offers different ways to experience its landscapes and history, from a suspension bridge high above the Lauitobel to themed trails with specific points of interest. If you are planning a stay, you can choose between shorter puzzle trails, longer circular hikes and cultural attractions. You can also plan your journey using the available bus and train connections.
The Skywalk and trails with their own character
The “Skywalk” pedestrian suspension bridge is 374 metres long and reaches up to 58 metres above the Lauitobel. From the bridge, you can enjoy views of the Ägerital valley and the diverse mountain landscape. The “Geissä Wäg” takes a different approach: it leads from Mostelberg around Engelstock to Blüemlisberg goat farm and includes seven interactive stations. Families travelling with strollers should note that the trail is suitable for models with large wheels.
Rondo’s Puzzle Trail is shorter than the “RUNDweg Engelstock”: it is about 1.8 kilometres long and passes eight puzzle stations. This trail is also suitable for strollers. The “RUNDweg Engelstock” is a 5.4-kilometre circular trail that starts and ends at the Mostelberg mountain station. From there, views extend to Lake Lauerz and Lake Lucerne, the two Mythen peaks, Fronalpstock and Rigi. The five signposted circular hikes from Mostelberg cover a range of walking times: depending on the route, they take between half an hour and two and a half hours.
Activities and a seasonal farm visit
At Blüemlisberg goat farm, visitors can learn about ice cream production, discover how the goats are kept and taste goat’s milk ice cream. This visitor experience is available seasonally. The farm is directly on the “RUNDweg Engelstock” and can be reached from the mountain station in about 45 minutes; the actual time may vary depending on trail conditions. You can treat the farm visit as a destination in its own right or combine it with the circular trail, while keeping the two offerings distinct.
Other activities offer different ways to get moving. The “Stuckli Run” summer toboggan run is 600 metres long and features tunnels and steep banked curves; at the finish, riders are pulled back up to the start. The tubing run is a 120-metre slide ridden on colourful inflatable rings. A conveyor belt takes riders back to the start through the Magic Tunnel. A mini-golf course with seven creative holes at the mountain station adds to the range of activities. Players use a hockey stick and puck.
Morgarten and other history
The Morgarten Trail leads from the parish church in Sattel to the Morgarten Monument on Lake Ägeri. Seven animated stations bring Morgarten’s history to life along the way. The parish church itself is a prominent landmark: it is considered the most significant building in the municipality of Sattel and stands prominently on a spur of Morgartenberg. Those interested in the history of fortifications can also visit the fire control station in the “Eggeli” tunnel in the village of Sattel, which is part of the Schwyz fortifications.
Getting here and winter activities
A rotating gondola takes visitors from Sattel-Hochstuckli to Mostelberg. Bus stops for services towards Zug, Schwyz and Rothenthurm are right at the valley station; Sattel railway station is a six-minute walk away. Check the timetable before travelling, and allow for the stated walking time if arriving by train.
There is also a specific option for winter sports: the Sattel-Hochstuckli ski area has 6.5 kilometres of pistes. Facilities include a children’s lift, a conveyor belt and various obstacles and figures. As well as hiking trails, there are winter activities to choose from; which ones suit your stay depends on whether you want to focus on scenery, history or getting active.
