The Rontaler Höhenweg makes Dierikon tangible through a specific sequence of landmarks: on the section near the municipality, the route passes the Götzentalbach stream, crosses the cantonal road and then reaches the Widacher farm. Along with the historic Dörfli, the church buildings and the surrounding countryside in the Ron Valley, the village offers two clear focal points for planning a trip: hiking and local history.

Hiking around Dierikon

The Rontaler Höhenweg is 14.7 kilometres long, connects the Lucerne area with Honau and passes through Dierikon, Ebikon, Gisikon, Honau and Root. The distance refers to the entire route, not the section near Dierikon. So if you are considering the trail for your stay, it is worth planning the total distance and the local route separately. The total length alone does not indicate how long the Dierikon section takes to walk.

The area around Dierikon lies in the Ron Valley and is characterised by farmland and woodland. This means that, alongside architectural history, the landscape and hiking are also themes to explore. For local orientation, the trail section offers a sequence of specific landmarks: the Götzentalbach stream, the cantonal road and the Widacher farm. These details help distinguish the local part of the Höhenweg from the longer route without implying that the two can be equated in terms of walking time.

The Dörfli and the village landscape

The historic village centre, the “Dörfli”, is listed as a site of national importance worthy of protection. It includes valuable farmhouses typical of the region and a distinctive mill building with extensions from different periods. The farmhouses and mill building provide different architectural points of reference; the mill’s extensions reflect several building phases.

The village chapel can also be dated: master builder Wilhelm Keller built it in 1862/63, replacing an earlier chapel dating from 1675. From late 2018 until March 2020, the former village chapel was converted into a restaurant with a bar and lounge called “Omnia Dierikon”. This was a historic change of use; it describes the conversion, not the venue’s current operation.

Church of the Holy Trinity and village life

The Church of the Holy Trinity was consecrated on 18 June 1972. Its features include an altarpiece depicting the Trinity and stained-glass windows by Godi Hirschi. Relics from the old chapel lie beneath a nickel-plated plate in the altar. Another striking feature is the 15-metre-high triangular wooden bell tower: built in 1976, it houses three bells made by the Rüetschi company in Aarau. The church thus brings together a range of details: art and relics inside, and a distinctive tower with bells.

The Dörflifasnacht traditionally begins with a procession, followed by celebrations on the school grounds. If you would like to plan your visit around this event, check the specific dates for your chosen period.

Regional produce and getting there

The Biobijou farm shop in Widacher offers juices, fruit, beef and lamb, honey, eggs, gifts and other specialities. The range may vary by season. The shop adds a selection of farm products to the cultural and hiking attractions; do not assume that specific products will be available when planning your visit.

Dierikon is served by bus route 23 on the Lucerne–Ebikon–Root route. If travelling by public transport, the current timetable for your travel date is the best guide. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can choose your accommodation to suit your plans: local history, the Rontaler Höhenweg or a visit during the Dörflifasnacht each offers a different focus.
