The Rontaler Höhenweg runs for 14 kilometres from Lucerne via Ebikon, Dierikon, Root and Gisikon to Honau. This places Ebikon on a route that connects several towns; at the same time, Rotsee, Mühlebachtobel and historic buildings offer different focuses for your stay. If you are looking for accommodation in Ebikon, you can first decide whether you would mainly like to hike, experience nature or explore local history.

Hiking with flexible end points

The Höhenweg is also suitable for families with children. Along the route, there are repeated opportunities to end your hike and walk down to a nearby public transport stop. For planning your tour, this means that the entire route is an option, but not a requirement; you can plan an earlier end point and make use of the available exit points. Before setting out, check the information on access to the trail, as access points and trail conditions may change.

Mühlebachtobel is an impressive stretch of nature in Ebikon. It offers a different focus from the Höhenweg: here, the passage itself is the attraction, while the Höhenweg is a longer route through several towns.

Rotsee and protected habitats

Rotsee belongs to Lucerne and Ebikon; the lake and its shores are protected. The protected area encompasses ecologically valuable and diverse habitats: shoreline, forests, meadows and pastures. Rotsee offers a different perspective when choosing the focus of your stay than the hiking route does: the emphasis is on a protected landscape around a lake. Ecological enhancements are being carried out in Ebikon.

Rotsee-Badi offers seasonal swimming and a separate children's pool. Check the current operating conditions before your visit. Bus routes 1, 18, 19, 22 and 23 connect Lucerne railway station with Rotsee. If you plan to travel by public transport, check the current timetable.

Alte Gerbe and HĂĽnenberg Castle

The listed buildings of the Alte Gerbe have been restored and retain their original character. The waterwheel at the Alte Gerbe is turning again in the MĂĽhlebach. This site therefore brings together restored historic fabric and a tangible detail of the mill's former use.

HĂĽnenberg Castle near Ebikon stands on a moraine hill south of Rotsee. Its construction history includes a newly built country estate with an associated chapel. As a landform, the moraine hill differs from the lake shores; its position south of Rotsee also locates the castle in relation to the surrounding area.

Ebikon Parish Church and the Lourdes Grotto also serve as places of religious worship on specific dates. This provides another, date-specific focus for planning your stay, alongside nature and architectural history.
