Rebeuvelier is a rural village on a broad saddle north of Mont Raimeux, about seven kilometres as the crow flies southeast of Delémont. The landscape, local history and a variety of trails shape the character of the destination. You can focus your trip on the highlands, historic buildings, or the meeting of woodland and pastureland.

Landscape around the Raimeux

The Rebeuvelier area forms a hollow in the terrain. Montchemin flanks it to the west, and Rosé and Moton to the north; two valleys drain northwards. Further afield, the land rises along the steep folded Jura slope of Mont Raimeux to its 1,302-metre summit. This was the highest point of the former municipality and of the Canton of Jura.

A circular hike from Rebeuvelier reaches the summit of the Raimeux and offers views of the Canton of Jura and the Weissenstein range. Les Rochers du Midi offers another striking viewpoint: from there, you can see the Delémont valley and the gorge through which the Birse flows. The Grotte de la Baume, also known as Dos la Baume, is a noteworthy natural site at the foot of the Raimeux massif.

Buildings and local history

Château de Raymontpierre stands at an altitude of 1,000 metres on the slopes of the Raimeux, surrounded by forests. The complex comprises a main building with a round tower, a chapel with post-Gothic windows, and a perimeter wall with two reconstructed corner turrets. The decision to build was made in 1593: Georges Hugué decided to construct the castle with the approval of Christophe Blarer de Wartensee, Prince-Bishop of Basel. The altitude figures refer to two different points: the château stands at 1,000 metres, while the Raimeux summit reaches 1,302 metres.

The church and the area’s industrial history also offer insight into the village’s development. The church was rebuilt in 1732, and the parish of Rebeuvelier was re-established in 1763. The former glassworks at La Verrerie, known as “de Roches”, was founded in 1797. Rebeuvelier-La-Verrerie was the first glass production site of the 19th century to be excavated on a Central European scale. The excavations focused on the production hall and the hydraulic mill.

Until the end of 2018, Rebeuvelier was an independent municipality in the Delémont district of the Canton of Jura. On 1 January 2019, it merged with Courrendlin and Vellerat to form the municipality of Courrendlin. This timeline helps distinguish older references to Rebeuvelier as a municipality from the current municipal structure.

Trails and activities

The Tour de R'beutz connects local history with a sporting tradition. The event was first organised in 1985 and then held annually. Initially, it was intended exclusively for runners; from 1992, it was also open to mountain bikers. The route follows roads and trails through forests and pastures. The Courrendlin–Montchemin–Rebeuvelier–Courrendlin circular route also passes through Rebeuvelier.

The barefoot trail in Rebeuvelier offers another way to explore the landscape and is associated with the Kneipp method. It is part of the first Kneipp centre in French-speaking Switzerland. For a break in the woods, there is Les Trois Sapins: the site is uncovered and lies on a forest track towards Courrendlin–Vicques. These options are quite different from the summit hike: here, the focus is on the Kneipp method or a woodland picnic spot, while the hike offers an ascent to the Raimeux and views of the surrounding landscape.
