Visitors to Says can choose how to balance their interests in nature and culture: hikes in Obersays, cycling routes with their own distinctive scenery, and a visit to the Trimmis local history museum in Says. When looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth deciding first which activity should shape your stay.
Hiking routes with different profiles
The Girenspitz 2133 m – Saysersee tour takes about 5 hours and 30 minutes, is 14 km long, and has 920 m of elevation gain and loss. This circular hike starts at the Obersays Artimi car park at 1,512 m. A short detour to the Girenspitz offers magnificent views of the Rhine Valley. Duration, elevation gain and loss, and access may vary depending on trail conditions; check the latest trail and access information before setting out.
The Obersays hike is moderately difficult, 11.9 km long, and has 801 m of elevation gain and loss. It is shorter and has less ascent and descent than the Girenspitz–Saysersee tour. It also passes through the former Walser village of Stams. The distance, elevation gain and loss, and stated difficulty provide different points of reference when choosing a route.
Meadows, mountain slopes and forest trails
Obersays lies on a green meadow terrace at about 1,100 m above sea level and offers views of the Calanda massif opposite. The cycling routes offer different scenic highlights: Stage 3 of GraubĂĽnden Bike crosses gentle alpine meadows and steep mountain slopes to reach the secluded moorland of Furnerberg. The Stamser Gravel Experience leads to Obersays and into a quiet forest dotted with mountain huts, reaching the former Walser settlement of Stams at 1,645 m above sea level.
Local history and a museum visit
The Trimmis local history museum is located in Says, not Ober-Says. School groups and other interested visitors can visit by prior arrangement; it is best to book an appointment before travelling. Using around 400 historical objects, models and pictures, the museum tells the story of the village. Another historical landmark is the district of Obersays, which joined the Reformation in 1526.
Getting there and regional specialities
Obersays can be reached by PostBus, with four daily services. The journey must be booked by telephone at least one hour before departure. Timetables and booking procedures may change; check both before travelling. The hike to Cyprianspitz near Valzeina reaches Obersays by bus via Trimmis.
Farm shops in Says may offer regional specialities for a refreshment stop; their selection may change. Stams also offers a seasonal dining option by request: Katja Gurt and Heinz welcome guests at their Maiensäss. Stams is a former Walser settlement above Trimmis in the canton of Graubünden and lies at about 1,650 m above sea level. Since this seasonal offer is available by request and may change, arrange your visit in advance.
