Landquart Fabriken combines industrial and railway history with routes that can be planned in different ways: an easy circular walk along the Rhine, the approximately 2.6-kilometre Planet Trail and a considerably longer skating route. The townscape also reveals a history of development spanning more than a century. For your stay, you can therefore choose to focus on architectural heritage, railway connections, a walk or a longer route.
Industrial history and locomotive depot
Landquart Fabriken is one of two parts of Landquart’s townscape. Its architectural and historical qualities include a settlement history that can be traced over more than 100 years. Landquart Fabriken is considered an example of a factory being established alongside several small residential districts; this type of settlement is regarded as having a certain significance. The semicircular locomotive depot is highlighted as an outstanding individual structure. The architectural perspective thus ranges from the distinctive depot to the settlement’s development over a longer period.
The Rhaetian Railway offers guided tours of its workshops in Landquart. Visitors gain insights into modern technology, precision and operations. In August 2026, the Rhaetian Railway listed workshop tours as bookable group visits. If you would like to include this experience in your plans, check the current dates and booking options before travelling.
Rail connections and routes
At the Landquart transport hub, trains operated by the Rhaetian Railway and Swiss Federal Railways stop for boarding, alighting and transfers. From here, the Rhaetian Railway serves the Prättigau and Engadin. The municipality’s districts are also well connected by rail and bus. The station is therefore a useful reference point for finding your way around the municipality. Check the current timetable for specific connections, as journey times may change.
An easy walking route starts at Landquart station, follows the Rhine and returns to the station via the Tardis Bridge. The starting point and endpoint are therefore the same, making it a circular route. The Planet Trail offers another route idea: it runs for approximately 2.6 kilometres within the municipality, from Bawald above Igis to Ganda. Information boards mark and describe Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. While the Rhine and the return to the station determine the walking route, the planetary stations give the other route its theme.
For a longer route, stage 3 of the SwitzerlandMobility Rhein Skate 1 route runs 32 kilometres from Landquart to Buchs, with 30 metres of elevation gain. These figures make the difference from the walking routes clear: this is a route with a farther-away stage destination. In the municipality, the viewpoint on Piz Alun also offers views across the Rhine Valley to Lake Constance in clear weather.
