Pre-Alpine hills, paths for hiking and cycling, and notable examples of cultural heritage shape Le Mouret. This gives visitors different ways to plan their trip: a longer hiking route, individual stages, a cycling connection or historic buildings. The combination you choose depends on how much time you want to spend outdoors and which cultural discoveries you would like to include.

Landscape between Berra and the Fribourg Plateau

Le Mouret lies in the pre-Alpine hills of the Fribourg Plateau, at the northern foot of the Berra ridge. Forested slopes alternate with rolling areas characterised by meadows and pastures. The highest point in the municipality is Petit Cousimbert, at 1,530 metres. The southern boundary follows the ridge as far as Chrüzflue, at 1,263 metres. These two elevations describe different points of reference: the highest point in the municipality and a section of its southern boundary.

The surrounding area also has hiking trails through pre-Alpine landscapes and valleys, and along rivers. La Berra is a viewpoint with views of Lac de La Gruyère and the Pre-Alps. Other trails run along the Ärgera and through the Plasselbschlucht gorge. This offers different landscape features to explore: a viewpoint, riverbanks or a gorge. These destinations and trails are not all part of a single tour.

Hiking: the full route or individual stages

The “Autour du Mouret” hiking trail invites you to discover the villages and landscapes of Le Mouret. The full route is listed as taking approximately five to six hours; it can also be completed in several stages. White arrows and diamonds mark the trail throughout. When planning your time, the main decision is whether to do the whole tour in one go or spread it over several stages. The approximate duration applies to the full route.

Cycling route and other activities

The Fribourg–Schwarzsee cycling route follows Route 59 from Fribourg via Bourguillon, Pierrafortscha, Tentlingen and Praroman to Le Mouret. Route 62 runs from Le Mouret via St. Sylvestre, Plasselb, Oberschrot and Planfayon to Zollhaus. You can take public transport back after your cycling trip; check the relevant connections for your specific plans.

The Préalpes Trail du Mouret returns in 2026 with its usual “Classic 38k” and “Surprise 22k” courses. For the 2026 edition’s Hike & Fly format, participants start at the Centre sportif. For the climb, they can choose either the route towards Chrüzflue and Cousimbert or the path via La Scierie to La Berra, where they take off. The trail also includes the Gorilla Challenge, an obstacle course for children aged 4 to 12, born between 2014 and 2022, as well as teenagers aged 13 to 15, born between 2011 and 2013. If you are planning to take part in the trail, check the current programme before your trip.

Cultural heritage and local cuisine

The Château de la Grande Riedera is located 1.5 kilometres south of the Le Mouret agglomeration, in the canton of Fribourg, at an altitude of 785 metres. It is largely surrounded by an old perimeter wall. In 1989, the Fondation Monique Pobé-Stoecklin acquired the château and fully renovated, restored and fitted out all the buildings.

The organ of the Église de Bonnefontaine, acquired by the new parish, came from the workshop of the famous Aloys Mooser. For a taste of Le Mouret, La Croix-Blanche is a traditional inn showcasing the culinary heritage of Fribourg and bears the “Fait Maison” label.
