Montagny Fr combines historic details with a landscape that stretches beyond the village. Its history includes the Reformed church and the pentagonal tower of Montagny-Le-Corbe castle; Roman traces and a glacial erratic with cup marks probably dating from the Neolithic take you further back in time. The village also offers views across the plain and towards the Jura. For a stay here, you can balance culture, scenery and a weather-independent indoor activity according to your interests.

Church and castle

The present-day Reformed church in Montagny-près-Yverdon was built in 1769 and has two very old bells. It can be visited by contacting the pastor or the municipal administration in advance; arrange this before your visit. Above ground, only the pentagonal tower remains of Montagny-Le-Corbe castle.

Roman roads and finds

An ancient Roman road between Yverdon and Sainte-Croix passed through Montagny. A Roman milestone discovered in the municipality in 1862 bears the name of Emperor Caracalla. In Bois des Planches, west of the village, a small glacial erratic with two cup marks can be seen beside a forest path; the marks were probably carved during the Neolithic. The road and milestone point to Roman times, while the erratic's cup marks are probably attributed to the Neolithic.

Landscape and regional setting

The village offers views across the plain and towards the Jura. The municipality lies northwest of Yverdon-les-Bains; the centre of Montagny-près-Yverdon is about 3 km from Yverdon-les-Bains as the crow flies. The Le Bey area borders Lake Neuchâtel, while the municipality's highest point is 500 metres above sea level, above the Brinaz. The Bonvillars wine-growing area stretches from Montagny-près-Yverdon to Concise, passing through a succession of small villages. This regional route also places Montagny in a landscape that extends beyond the village itself.

The geographic references describe different places: the views are associated with the village, the straight-line distance with the centre, and the lake with the Le Bey area; the highest point lies above the Brinaz. Together, they show the municipality from several spatial perspectives and give you different reference points for finding your way around.
