A circular trail, forest activities and archery craftsmanship each offer a different focus in Schwanden Bei Brienz. The Schwander Lebensweg is all about outdoor exercise; at Schwanderbedli, the focus is on forest bathing and a barbecue area. There is also a craft tradition carried on through five generations. This makes it easy to choose where to stay based on your interests in nature, exercise or culture.
Circular Trail, Views and Cycling Route
The Schwander Lebensweg is a four-kilometre circular trail that is open all year and suitable for family outings or excursions for nature enthusiasts. The Schonegg barbecue area is right on the trail. This public area offers views across the Schwander- and Brienzerlauene to Lake Brienz. It is accessible by vehicle and has been made accessible for people with disabilities.
For cyclists, the Schwanden-Brienz mountain bike trail runs along the Lammbach from Oberschwanden downhill to Kienholz. The route is 1,200 metres long, with an elevation difference of 140 metres. This gives you a choice between a walking trail and a named cycling route with specified distances and elevation change. The surrounding area has cycling and mountain biking routes, from moderate tours around Lake Brienz to more challenging gravel routes.
The walk from Brienz railway station to Schwanden takes about 20 minutes and passes the Glyssibach flood protection structures. A local article dated 13 February 2026 describes the «Indianerwäg» as a walkable path from Deerfliplatz via Stockistrasse into Stockiwald or Brischwald; the same article traces its origins to children’s games by the Glyssibach.
Forest Bathing and Activities in the Woods
Schwanderbedli, a forest bathing spot with a barbecue area, is located by the Lammbach. From May to September, it is supplied with fresh water from the Lammbach. The barbecue area is available year-round; Schwanderbedli also has tables, benches and toilet facilities. This distinction is useful when planning: the water supply is seasonal, while the barbecue area is available all year.
The forest activities also have different focuses. The Zauberschulpfad is a nature and experiential learning activity for children aged three to twelve. Along the designated route, school classes or children follow twelve stations and enjoy hands-on, creative and sensory experiences in nature. The «Pippi Waldstrumpf Wald» is a forest play and learning area for school classes, families and holiday visitors. The Zauberschulpfad is aimed at children aged three to twelve; the Pippi Waldstrumpf Wald is intended for school classes, families and holiday visitors.
