Walzenhausen combines hiking trails with views of Lake Constance and an adventure trail with 30 stations. There are also historic sites and a range of ways to shape a stay that brings together scenery, activity and culture.
Walzenhausen above Lake Constance
Walzenhausen lies above Lake Constance and offers far-reaching views as far as Germany. Ridges, meadows and forests shape the municipality. Hiking, walks and excursions into nature are among the ways to experience the landscape. The nearby lake contributes to pleasant summers and relatively mild winters.
Three circular trails with different walking times
In addition to the adventure trail, there are three different circular hiking trails. Walking times range from 50 minutes to four hours, so you can choose a route to suit the time you have during your stay. The trails wind around the municipality through meadows and forests, with repeated views of Lake Constance. Visibility depends on the weather. Check the current trail conditions before setting out.
The Walzenhausen Adventure Trail has 30 stations and is marked throughout with white-and-green signposts. It is intended for children aged eight and over, who can visit with their family or as part of a school class. There are several viewpoints and fire pits along the trail. Signposting may change, and the viewpoints and fire pits may be affected by the season. Take these conditions into account when planning your visit.
A church and monastery with their own histories
The historic Reformed Church of Walzenhausen dates back to 1638. Together with the rectory and the lime tree, it forms an ensemble around the church square. The Reformed Church at Dorf 111 is listed as a Category B cultural asset in the 2026 Federal Inventory.
The Monastery of St. Ottilia Grimmenstein lies near the hamlet of Platz in Walzenhausen. It is an Innerrhoden exclave and part of the Oberegg district. The Capuchin community that exists there today traces its origins to the founding of a Beguine hermitage in 1378. These distinct historical landmarks stand side by side: the 17th-century church ensemble and a community with medieval roots.
