Schinznach-Bad is known for its sulphurous thermal spring and centuries-old bathing tradition. Aquarena Fun, the Aargau Geo Trail and Pitch & Putt offer different experiences. When planning your visit, you can therefore choose to focus on thermal baths, history or outdoor activities.

Baths, Thermal Water and Sauna

Aquarena Fun has a 65-metre-long grotto slide and a 25-metre swimming pool. A thermal water pool connects the indoor and outdoor pools: you can swim between them without leaving the water. Aquarena Fun also has wheelchair-accessible changing rooms and showers.

Thermi Spa has heated stone loungers in the Orient Cocon. Its thermal water pool features bubble loungers, massage jets and a whirlpool. Aquarena Sauna offers different amenities, including three saunas, two steam rooms, a brine graduation tower and various relaxation areas. The panoramic sauna and infinity cold-water pool offer views of the parkland. Check the access requirements for each facility before your visit.

Bathing Traditions and Local History

Schinznach-Bad is a village in Switzerland, in the canton of Aargau and the district of Brugg. Since 1 January 2020, it has been part of the city of Brugg following a merger. Bad Schinznach is set in parkland on the banks of the Aare.

The Schinznach spring was rediscovered in 1691 on the right bank of the Aare near Birrenlauf. Numerous buildings for spa visitors were subsequently constructed. In 1761, the spa in Schinznach-Bad was the founding location of the Helvetic Society. The spa architecture also tells the story of the town’s development: construction of the rotunda began in 1824, it opened in 1828 and has been a landmark of Bad Schinznach ever since. Historic spa architecture in Baroque and Neoclassical styles adds to this architectural heritage.

Circular Trail or Golf Round

The Aargau Geo Trail is an 11-kilometre circular hiking trail that passes through Schinznach-Bad. Its 23 signposted information points cover the region’s geology, ecology and history. Check current route conditions before setting out.

Another activity is Pitch & Putt, a challenging 9-hole short course in the park at Bad Schinznach. The course incorporates bunkers, water hazards, a water lily pond and streams. You can play there without a course qualification or handicap. The Geo Trail focuses on regional topics along the route, while Pitch & Putt is all about the golf round. Check seasonal access and booking requirements in advance.

Getting to the Thermal Baths

The thermal baths are a ten-minute walk from Schinznach-Bad station. The “Aquarena” bus stop is located in front of the entrance to the thermal baths. Schinznach-Bad is on the Brugg–Aarau railway line. Check train and bus timetables before travelling. If you take the train, allow time for the walk; the bus stop is right in front of the entrance.
