When planning your trip, you can focus on several different things: the swimming complex at Vara badhus has an 80-metre water slide and a Relaxen area; Vara Konserthus presents nearly 200 concerts and performances each year. There is also a confectionery with a history dating back to 1903, as well as historical themes relating to agriculture and the courts. You can therefore consider bathing facilities, a programme of events that depends on the dates, and various aspects of local history as separate highlights.

Swimming area: slide and Relaxen

The Relaxen area at Vara badhus includes hot tubs, a scented sauna, a sauna hut, a steam room, an adventure shower and an outdoor pool. The facilities offer different experiences: the slide provides an active water experience, while the other named facilities define the Relaxen area. If you include the baths in your plans, you can use this selection to decide which part suits your interests. Details may change; the Relaxen area’s facilities may also be affected by maintenance. Check their current status before your visit.

Concerts, dance and theatre

Vara Konserthus is the second concert venue of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. It presents nearly 200 concerts and performances each year. The programme includes dance, theatre and music in many genres, including classical music, stand-up, jazz and pop. It is therefore not limited to classical concerts: dance or theatre may also be the deciding factor when choosing a cultural event. If a particular event is important to you, check the schedule for your travel dates.

Art and history

The public artwork The Blue Orange was inaugurated in 2012, turning Vara’s station house into a visitor attraction. For a different historical perspective, there are Forngård and the museum run by the supporters’ association of Vara folkhögskola. Both were built in 2015 and mainly display agricultural objects from the 17th and 18th centuries. The focus here is therefore primarily on objects related to agriculture.

Naumstugan is a courthouse from the 17th and 18th centuries for the Barne judicial district. Taken together, these subjects are clearly distinct: The Blue Orange is associated with the station house, ForngĂĄrd and the museum display agricultural objects, and Naumstugan represents a connection to the courts. Those interested in history can choose between art, a collection of agricultural objects and the judicial system.

Confectionery history since 1903

Sisters Alma and Alvida Jansson founded Conditori Nordpolen in 1903; the confectionery has been in business ever since. The year it was founded and the names of its founders make this a specific business history. This adds a culinary highlight alongside the programme of events and historical collections. Its historical anchor is the founding of a confectionery business, not a collection or a programme of performances.
