The Oltorp outdoor area in Kvänum offers a clear focus for days outdoors. History, brewing culture and golf are other options for different interests. One distinction between locations is important when planning your trip: Bastöna gammelgård is nearby, but outside Kvänum.

Outdoors in Oltorp

Oltorp brings together four challenging mountain biking trails in natural surroundings for adults and children, a ten-kilometre cultural walking trail and a small swimming lake. The cultural walking trail can be used on foot, for running or by bicycle. This offers different ways to get around: the mountain biking trails are notable for their number and challenging nature, while the cultural walking trail is defined by its stated length and the choice of walking, running or cycling. The small lake adds another feature to the outdoor area. When choosing, you can therefore consider whether to focus on a challenging mountain biking trail, the longer cultural walking trail or the swimming lake.

Local history and nearby surroundings

From the late 19th century, Kvänum developed around the railway station and alongside the older church village. The station thus marks a more recent layer of development alongside the older church village; both are distinct historical points of reference in the town’s development.

Nearby, outside Kvänum, Bastöna gammelgård is located in Norra Vånga. The well-preserved historic farmstead dates back to the 1860s. From there, a marked walking trail of about five kilometres passes through Rösjö Mosse and by Rösjön before returning to the starting point. It is a circular route with a clearly identified start and finish, and two different landscape features along the way. For comparison, Bastöna’s route is about five kilometres, while Oltorp’s cultural walking trail is ten kilometres. They are separate trails in different locations.

Brewery, castle garden and golf

Qvänum Mat & Malt offers drink tastings and tours of the brewery and distillery. The company produces aromatic beer without additives, using water from its own well. Tastings and tours have different focuses: the drinks take centre stage at tastings, while tours take you through the brewery and distillery.

Visitors can stroll through the gardens of Bjertorp Slott and experience the historic surroundings. There is also a golf course, which readers of Golf Digest magazine voted the best golf course in Västra Götaland. Bjertorp Slott’s restaurant uses ingredients from regional suppliers. A stroll in the castle garden, golf and locally sourced ingredients in the restaurant are therefore separate interests to enjoy here.
