Knätte is home to a medieval stone church, local religious history and a nature reserve with geological features. Änglaleden adds a longer route for hiking and cycling. You can shape your stay around different interests: architectural and church history, the landscape or a tour between several places.

Knätte Church and the Cemetery

Knätte Church is a medieval stone church. Its construction is generally dated to the period from the late 12th century to the beginning of the 14th century. The building stands on a prominent hillock above a compact village in the built-up valley of the Ätran River. The church, village and valley together shape the landscape setting in which the church rises.

The cemetery can also be explored through specific architectural details. It has two entrances; the northwestern one has stone gateposts and an early 20th-century wrought-iron double gate. A stone staircase leads up from the country road to this entrance.

The Chapel and Local Religious History

Knätte Chapel is connected with another aspect of religious history. Aron Frisell built the chapel and made it available to all who preached the Gospel of Christ. The Baptist congregation in Knätte held its meetings there. The chapel still stands, but has been empty and unused for many years and has since fallen into serious disrepair.

Knätte Nature Reserve

Knätte Nature Reserve includes two prominent hillocks formed by glacial meltwater deposits. Some of the material originates from the limestone rocks of Falbygden. Knätte kullar is a 4-hectare nature reserve with a steppe-like dry meadow. Knätte Nature Reserve has an information board, a car park and a picnic area.

Knätte Nature Reserve is accessible by a road that branches off immediately south of Knätte Church. If you would like to include both the church and the nature reserve in your stay, you can explore these distinctive geological and architectural features separately and choose the route between them according to your plans.

Änglaleden on Foot or by Bike

Änglaleden is a 37-kilometre cycling and hiking trail between Årås, Hössna, Knätte and Liared. The route passes through varied landscapes along Lakes Jogen, Vållern and Lönnern. At 37 kilometres, Änglaleden is a longer outing: plan it as a trip in its own right, whether you are travelling on foot or by bike. Route details may change, so it is a good idea to check the current description before planning.

In the wider region along Änglaleden, there are both wind shelters and places to stay overnight. This lets you choose accommodation based on your actual travel plans.
