In the west of Orust, the paths and hiking trails of Hälleviksstrand run through and around the village; together, they stretch for about 25 kilometres and connect with Edshultshall. Several trails cross smooth rock slabs and offer sea views. The village’s history and the distinctive Hälleviksstrand Church complete the picture. For hiking, it is worth distinguishing the total size of the trail network from the details of an individual route.

Hiking Trails and Coastal Views

The Porsnäsleden is 4.7 kilometres long and rated difficult; it runs over cliffs and moorland. Large sections of the route follow the so-called “E6 of the Sea”. The Porsnäs lighthouse serves as a landmark along the way. The length, difficulty and terrain described here apply to this particular hike. By contrast, the approximately 25 kilometres refer to all the paths and hiking trails in and around Hälleviksstrand. The comparison illustrates the difference between a single challenging trail and the larger network.

The Strosa på Strana circular trail has about 40 points of interest along its full route. There is a toilet along the circular trail, open from April to September.

Church and Local History

Hälleviksstrand Church stands out for its red colour and Norse-inspired design. It is the only wooden church built by the architect Adrian Peterson. It was inaugurated on 20 October 1904 by Bishop Edvard Rodhe. The colour and design describe its appearance, while the exact inauguration date and the bishop’s name also place the building in a specific historical context.

Hälleviksstrand was first mentioned in written sources in 1617. During the herring period of the 18th century, the village flourished with a herring salting house. These details mark different stages: an early written mention and later growth associated with the herring salting house. Together with the church, inaugurated in 1904, they span a period from the early mention through the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century.

Harbour, Andstensholmen and Boat Trips

Hälleviksstrand guest harbour is open from 1 May to 31 August. If its season matters for your travel plans, check the details before your visit. A 2024 municipal plan describes uses for swimming, boating, recreation and community activities on Andstensholmen.

Anders Båt offers boat trips to the Bohuslän archipelago from Hälleviksstrand. Departures and booking conditions may change, so check the details for your preferred date. The guest harbour and boat trips have different time frames: seasonal opening dates are given for the harbour, while specific departure times and conditions matter for a trip.
