The Hökesån-Habo nature reserve runs through the town of Habo. In the central part of the reserve, trails run along both sides of the watercourse, with bridges at several points. In autumn, you can observe spawning Lake Vättern trout in Habo. This brings together two distinct aspects of nature in Habo: trails by the water and seasonal wildlife watching.

Walking trails and distances

There are five marked walking trails in the town, ranging from 3 to 7.5 kilometres. Right next to Habo is the Gränsenstugan outdoor recreation area, with five trails ranging from 3 to 14 kilometres. Both areas have trails starting at 3 kilometres; the difference is at the upper end: 7.5 kilometres in town and 14 kilometres in Gränsenstugan. The red health loop in Habo is an Xrunda with digital quiz questions. This adds a digital component to choosing a route by distance. If you want to use the quiz feature, check that it is available before setting off. As trail conditions can change with the seasons, check conditions shortly before your trip. The longest trail in Gränsenstugan is almost twice as long as the longest in Habo.

Planning depends on different considerations: autumn is the season for trout watching, while walking trails call for attention to the stated distance and seasonally changing trail conditions.

Industrial history and cultural attractions

Habo has a rich history of entrepreneurship and industry. One concrete architectural example is the central industrial complex of Habo ullspinneri. Two large, red-painted wooden buildings dominate the complex and stand at an angle to each other; most of the buildings date from 1915 to 1945. Their layout and historic buildings give the local industrial history a tangible architectural form.

Another cultural attraction in Habo is “Spinnet”, which now serves as an exhibition hall and cultural centre. At “Made in Habo”, selected products from Habo are displayed in exhibitions; the products were made in Habo. The exhibitions are held at the library, health centre and family centre. Check the exhibition locations before visiting. The themes differ: Habo ullspinneri represents the historic buildings, while Made in Habo showcases selected locally made products. Habo hembygdsgård is within easy walking distance of the town centre.

Landscape and Lake Vättern

Habo’s landscape includes a dramatic ancient bedrock plateau, a lush beech forest and a rugged-looking mountain landscape. This combination offers a range of natural features rather than reducing Habo to a single landscape type. South of Habo is Domsandsbadet, with a long sandy beach and two bathing jetties on Lake Vättern. Those comparing places to enjoy the water will find two distinct settings: the nature reserve by the watercourse and the beach on the lakeshore. Seasonal facilities may change; check current conditions before your visit.
