The four-kilometre-long Grums waterfront promenade runs in sections from Grums idrottspark to the bathing area at Trulsön. Water and outdoor activities are at the heart of one of Grums’s specific excursion destinations, alongside historic sites, natural areas and activities for different seasons.

By the water: Trulsön and the guest harbour

At the bathing area at Trulsön, you’ll find a sandy beach, cliffs, a barbecue area, a jetty, an accessible ramp and a playground. There is also a changing cabin and a jetty for winter swimming. As facilities may vary by season, it’s worth checking the conditions before your visit. Trulsön is within walking distance of Grums guest harbour. The harbour is located inside the bridge at Slottsbrosundet; its water depth is 2.5 to 3 metres. Harbour conditions may vary seasonally.

Trails, cycling and winter sports

Grums idrottspark has an ice rink, an artificial-turf pitch and illuminated exercise trails. There is also a mountain bike trail nearby: the hilly route is 2.5 kilometres long and has a bark surface. This area offers a choice of different activities without requiring a particular route or length of stay.

If you’re looking for more trails, Grums Municipality has 30 Hittaut checkpoints at various locations. You can reach them on foot, by running or by bicycle. The number of checkpoints and the programme may change from season to season. Sverigeleden, Unionsleden and Vänerleden also pass through the municipality. Check their routes before setting off.

Several options are also described for winter: Grums skidklubb maintains three cross-country ski trails in the municipality, two of them at Grums idrottspark. The trails in Grums include an illuminated 2.5-kilometre route and a 5-kilometre route. Ålviksbacken has four downhill runs and offers views of Lake Vänern. Operations and snow conditions may vary.

Culture and local history

Grums Church dates back to the 12th century; two baptismal fonts from that period are preserved there. After a fire in 1927, the church was rebuilt on its old walls. The development of the Grums urban area is also linked to the timber and paper industries. A mural on the apartment building at Åsgatan 25, created in 2017 as part of Artscape Värmland, offers another connection to contemporary art. Sveaparken in Grums is also one of the locations of the permanent memorial artworks dedicated to Sven-Erik Magnusson.

The Värmland room at Grums Library has information about history from the Ice Age through the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Middle Ages, up to later periods. In Värmskog, L.M. Ericsson’s memorial farm Nordtomta has an exhibition of telephones and other equipment from Ericsson’s early production. The Glassworks Museum in Liljedal is located on the site of a former glassworks. There is also a guest harbour and parking spaces for motorhomes at the museum. Borgvik Museum’s offerings include the permanent exhibition “Järnets väg” and smaller temporary exhibitions; exhibitions may change. The Boa in Borgvik combines a museum and village shop, offering local handicrafts and products from the region.

Nature and landscape

In Getgarsudde Nature Reserve, extensive boulder fields and successive beach ridges shape the landscape. A marked walking trail there is about 2.5 kilometres long. As trail conditions and access may change, check the latest information before your visit. Another landscape feature is Stentorget: the boulder field lies on a ridge and was originally a seashore. Kycklingdalen is known for its flora, unusual for Värmland, and its rich birdlife.

For travel, the town centre can serve as a useful landmark: the railway station and bus station are close to the centre of Grums. Check timetables for your travel dates when planning your accommodation and excursions.
