The Örsundaån flows through Örsundsbro; nearby museums and historic buildings tell stories from different chapters of the region’s history. The landscape has its own appeal, too: fields are surrounded by deciduous and coniferous forests. When planning your trip, you can choose between local history, rural culture and views across the river landscape.

River and Landscape Around Örsundsbro

There is a marina for leisure boats in the town. The Örsundaån was once an important route for boat traffic—a historical role distinct from its present-day significance as a river flowing through Örsundsbro. Nearby, the Uvberget nature reserve offers views over the Örsundaån valley and Lake Alstasjön. The vistas of the valley and lake offer a different perspective from the view of the river in town. Facilities and conditions in the nature reserve may change; check the latest local information when planning your visit.

Farm, School and Church History

Kvekgården is an open-air museum nearby that tells the story of life on a farm in the 19th century. It is one of the best-preserved older farms in Uppsala County and remains in its original location. In summer, visitors can take a guided tour of the many buildings. As tours are seasonal, it is advisable to check the dates before your trip.

The Nysätra School Museum displays school items dating from the mid-19th century onwards, including school desks and old textbooks. It focuses on historical school life, while Kvekgården tells the story of farming life. Giresta Church is also nearby. Its present building dates from 1914; the medieval church burned down in 1911. The 1914 building is the third church on this site. These three places therefore offer different ways to explore history: farm life, school and church architecture.

Trade Museum and Cinema

In the centre of Örsundsbro, next to the bridge, Kappen is housed in a red wooden building. The small trade museum displays the historic interior of a local general store. Sweden’s first cooperative store was founded at this site in 1850. The museum’s interior and the store’s history give the subject of trade a tangible connection to the town.

Films were shown at Gamla Bion until 1961. Today, the building serves as a living museum, with guided tours arranged by appointment. On summer evenings, Gamla Bion screens current quality films; the film programme is seasonal. Tours require an appointment, while film screenings depend on the season. Check the dates that suit your visit before travelling.

Swimming and Regional Produce

Alstabadet is three kilometres west of Örsundsbro. This bathing spot has a sandy beach, a children’s swimming area, large lawns, changing rooms, a toilet, a barbecue area and bathing jetties. Its facilities set it apart from the museums and make swimming another possible focus for your stay. Facilities may change; check the latest local information before planning a visit.

Farm shops around Örsundsbro sell, among other things, cheese, sausage and bread. The selection may change over time. These products add a practical way to include regional farm shops in your travel plans alongside cultural and landscape attractions.
