Lillkyrka offers several specific reasons to shape your stay around nature and local history. Its open landscape is reflected in trails through woodland and meadows; the medieval church brings together architectural and cultural traces from several centuries. Trögdsparken and Jowilins lada offer further options to visit. When deciding what to do, you can weigh up trail length and format, historical interests and current visiting opportunities.

Trails and historical points of interest

The Lillkyrka fornstig is an easy three-kilometre circular trail through woodland and meadows. The Lillkyrka motionsspĂĄr is 2.5 kilometres long and includes a short 600-metre loop, also known as MullespĂĄret. This gives you a choice of different distances: a short loop on the motionsspĂĄr or the Fornstig circular trail.

Finnhögen, the largest burial mound along the Lillkyrka fornstig, dates from the Viking Age. If you would like a specific historical point of interest along the way, Finnhögen is a notable landmark that may help you choose this trail.

Another hiking option is half of stage 27 of the Upplandsleden. You can hike from the bus stop in Lillkyrka to Kungs-Husby kyrka; the route is about five kilometres long. This offers an alternative to the local trails, which are listed as a circular trail or loop. If you plan to start at the bus stop, check current transport information in advance.

The medieval church of Lillkyrka

Lillkyrka kyrka is a small medieval Romanesque church made of grey stone, with a tarred shingle roof. It originally dates from the late 13th century and was first mentioned in 1303, during an archbishop’s visitation. Medieval images of Mary and Christ have been preserved in the church.

The burial sites add further layers of history. The tomb chapel, built in the 16th century, is called Oxenstiernska or Eka-Gravkoret. The church also contains two 16th-century tombstones. The organ was built in 1840 by P. O. Gullbergsson, a local organ builder and resident of Lillkyrka. Together, these details span medieval architecture and visual art, 16th-century burial culture and 19th-century organ building.

Visits to Lillkyrka kyrka are possible in connection with church services. Other visiting times can be arranged by contacting the parish office at least ten days in advance. Check current service times and contact details before making plans.

Park, café and art

Trögdsparken in Lillkyrka combines landscaped park areas and play spaces with open lawns and low-growing shrubs. It offers a different way to spend time in the area from the hiking trails described above.

Jowilins lada is a café and day-trip destination in Lillkyrka. It serves homemade pastries and filled sandwiches, and also has an outdoor children’s playground. The gallery displays paintings and handicrafts. The café, playground and gallery are all together in one place. As the café’s opening hours are seasonal, check in advance whether it will be open on the day of your visit.
