Explore Sköndal through its waterside trails and culture. Stora Sköndal is a natural and park landscape by Drevviken; there are places to swim by the lake, and the trails pass through varied scenery. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Sköndal, you could start by considering whether swimming, outdoor activities or local history is most important for your outings.

Parkland and architectural history

The area around Stora Sköndal has the character of a residential development set in a park: small houses containing apartments for seniors and staff are freely arranged in lush green surroundings. The road network and buildings were carefully adapted to the existing topography and natural environment.

Stora Sköndals kyrka was built between 1927 and 1929 and inaugurated in 1929. It is one of 43 churches in Stockholm that are specially protected under the Cultural Heritage Act. The construction dates and protected status offer different historical points of reference: the dates indicate when it was built, while the special protection status reflects the church’s place in Stockholm’s cultural heritage.

By Drevviken: Swimming and kayaking

The child-friendly Sköndalsbadet is on the shore of Drevviken. You can swim there from the sandy beach or the jetty; the lake is immediately below the swimming pool area. The swimming spots therefore offer two different ways to access the water.

Stora Sköndals bassängbad is an outdoor swimming pool for people with disabilities and their relatives. Access conditions may change, so check them before your visit.

Between Sköndalsbadet and the sun terrace, an unmanned Kayakomat rents out single and tandem kayaks. If you are planning to kayak rather than swim, the rental is a separate water activity. Check its current availability in advance, as operating information may change.

Walking trails and a pilgrimage walk

The Drevvikens strandpromenad passes the Stora Sköndal estate. There, its main path continues farther from the shore through meadows and woodland towards the Flaten area. There are paths for walking and jogging by Drevviken at Talludden and Lövudden. The trails described therefore differ in their surroundings: the main path by the estate passes through meadows and woodland, while the paths at Talludden and Lövudden run along the lake.

Another option is the Kärnordsvandring, an approximately two-kilometre pilgrimage walk along Drevviken. It passes nine stones bearing texts by author and theologian Margareta Melin. The approximate length gives an indication of the distance; the inscribed stones add a cultural dimension to the route.

Getting there by bus

Stora Sköndal is accessible by bus 188 from Gullmarsplan, bus 181 from Farsta and bus 143 from Älvsjö; all stop at Stora Sköndal. Route information may change, so check the current timetable before travelling.
