Kista offers several ways to shape your stay: public art and local history are complemented by a library, a conference venue and leisure activities. To plan your visit, you can first decide whether to focus on art and historical details, a conference, or active leisure. The places and activities below can help you connect these interests with specific points of reference.
Parks, Art and Local History
Kistagårdsparken is a neighbourhood park with activities for adults and children. It is inspired by the cultural and historical surroundings of Kista gård; the farm’s origins date back to the 18th century. The bronze sculpture “Lindarnas anatomi” by Christine Ödlund stands along the park’s avenue of fruit trees. Park activities and a specific work of art therefore offer different points of reference for your visit.
Kista kyrka also brings architecture and history together: the church was inaugurated on 1 October 1978 and designed by Zoltan Bedecs. The old Välling bell from Kista gård hangs outside the church and rings for smaller weekday services. A runestone bearing the names of four of Kista’s earliest known residents stands in front of Kista gård. The church and the stone thus offer different ways to explore local history: a dated inauguration and the names of early residents.
Another public artwork is “Stenkvinna” by Olle Nyman. It was created from concrete and granite in 1977. Together with the bronze sculpture in the park, it offers a specific comparison of materials: bronze in “Lindarnas anatomi”, and concrete and granite in “Stenkvinna”. If you are interested in art, Kista offers more than one kind of public artwork.
Architecture and Culture
Kista Science Tower is 124 metres tall and Stockholm’s tallest office building. It also serves as a conference venue; the programme may vary. Kista Bibliotek covers 2,400 square metres and is considered Stockholm’s second-largest library. The two places offer different cultural connections: the tower also hosts conferences, while the library stands out for its size compared with other libraries in the city.
Choose Leisure Activities to Suit Your Interests
Kista Galleria has a cinema, bowling, shuffleboard, arcades, laser tag and VR experiences. Individual offerings may change. Filmstaden Kista is the cinema in the Galleria. It has digital sound, a large screen and digital projectors in every auditorium; screenings and facilities may also change.
Bowling is also available at O’Learys Kista Event Center, along with go-karting. Activities and operational details may change. When making your choice, it therefore makes a difference whether you are looking for a specific leisure activity or want to compare several options: the Event Center offers go-karting as well as bowling, while the Galleria lists several different experiences.
Kista Racket Center has ten badminton courts and offers rackets for rent or sale. Booking and availability may change. Unlike the cinema or bowling, badminton is a sporting option in its own right; the number of courts and the option to rent or buy rackets are practical details to consider when planning.
Accommodation and Getting Around
Hotels and a conference venue are within walking distance of Kista Center. From Kista Galleria, you can reach the base of a 32-storey building by walking through the Galleria in about three minutes.
