If you choose Boo as your base, you can shape your trip around nature trails, water and cultural history. The experiences offer different highlights: Velamsund features viewpoints and several routes, Rensättra combines varied landscapes with swimming opportunities, and Boo has a cultural history trail.

Viewpoints and hiking trails in Velamsund

In eastern Boo lies the Velamsund Nature Reserve, one of Nacka Municipality’s largest recreational areas. From the observation tower on Himlaberget, you can enjoy far-reaching views over Nacka and the inner archipelago. The area has several hiking trails and exercise loops: one illuminated route is 2.5 kilometres long, the green route is 4 kilometres, and the red loop is 6 kilometres. This lets you compare different route lengths when choosing your walk.

At about 15 kilometres, Booleden is a different proposition. It runs from Boo hembygdsgård in Orminge to Strömmen farm on the border with Värmdö Municipality. Along the way, it passes through forests and over rocky ground, by small forest lakes and across meadows. Its start point, endpoint and distance make it easy to plan as a longer hike in its own right. At around 15 kilometres, Booleden is clearly longer than the individual routes in Velamsund.

Landscapes and swimming opportunities in Rensättra

Rensättra Nature Reserve lies in the northern part of Boo. Its habitats include grazing land, old pine forests on rocky ground and stream environments. The Lila slingan is 2.7 kilometres long and passes meadows, horse paddocks, waterways, allotment gardens, spruce forest and rocky terrain. Along this route, open spaces, water and forest alternate.

For swimming, you can choose between the spot on the shore of Lake Sågsjön in Rensättra Nature Reserve and Boobadet. Boobadet has a sandy beach, bathing jetties and rocks; a ramp helps make it accessible. Take bus route 414 to the Boo gård stop, then walk about 600 metres to Boobadet. This provides a specific bus connection for this swimming stop.

Cultural history in Boo

The cultural history trail in Boo can be explored on a guided tour; one stop is in front of Boo GĂĄrd. Another historic destination is Boovalvet, northwest of Boo herrgĂĄrd: the surviving cellar may date from the 16th century. Boo kyrka has a series of stained-glass windows depicting the Passion, as well as wall and vault paintings by Olle Hjortzberg.

The history of the chapel offers another link to the past. After the Russian devastations of 1719, the chapel built in 1635 was burned down. The castle architect Nicodemus Tessin then built a new chapel, which was inaugurated in 1724. Baggensstäkets kulturreservat in Boo is intended to provide a natural area close to residential areas for recreation.
