Sparreholm is close to nature on the shores of Båven, the largest lake in Södermanland. Castle history, oak landscape and paths by the water give the area a variety of focal points. If you are looking for accommodation, you can plan your stay around whether museums and history, walks through open countryside, or routes for walking and cycling are your priority. Looking for accommodation is therefore only part of the planning; it is just as important to decide what you want your stay to focus on.

Castle History and Museums

Today, Sparreholms slott is home to museums and an equestrian centre. The Sparreholms slott Automobile Museum traces the development of the automobile from the late 19th century to the present day. The Carriage Museum has around 60 carriages and sledges. The museums have different focuses: the Automobile Museum covers a long period, while the Carriage Museum puts carriages and sledges at its centre. Those interested in technology and mobility can view the two topics as different perspectives on transportation.

The Sparreholm cultural landscape area includes extensive oak pastures, park-like grazing and meadowland, and a large settlement of torp cottages. It includes a manor dating from the 17th century; the present buildings date from the 18th century. The estate was originally called Hyltingenäs. Göran Sparre had the castle building constructed in the 17th century; Sparreholm was named after him.

Oak Landscape and Walking Paths

Sparreholms ekhagar is an open oak landscape next to Sparreholms slott, suitable for picnics and walks. The old oaks provide important habitats for lichens, mosses, insects and birds; for example, the rare Läderbagge beetle lives in hollow old trees. The oak landscape is therefore interesting both as an open landscape and for the habitats provided by old trees.

The routes differ in accessibility: a gravel path from the northern car park leads into the Sparreholms ekhagar reserve and is suitable for people with pushchairs or mobility difficulties; the Harmonirundan in Sparreholm has not been adapted for accessibility. The circular route is about 2.5 kilometres long; the Tempelberget is about 500 metres from the route. The varied Hälsans stig is about 4.1 kilometres long and runs along Minnenas och sinnenas trädgård and Båvens spinnhus. It is therefore longer than the circular route.
