On the north side of Svedala Station, a 44-metre-long mural adorns the station map. Its motifs were developed using local stories, interviews and workshops. The town’s railway heritage is also part of its character: regular block layouts and industrial buildings next to the station are of significant cultural and historical value.

In the town of Svedala, brick buildings dating from around the turn of the century have been preserved, including residential buildings, commercial buildings and grand villas. Svedala kyrka adds art and historic furnishings to this architectural heritage. It was inaugurated on 17 October 1852 and built to the plans of cathedral architect Carl Georg Brunius. Its apse contains a large painting by Erik Lindholm, painted in 1965, depicting a biblical landscape with Jesus as the Good Shepherd. The furnishings also include two panels from a medieval altarpiece, name cipher panels of Charles XII, and a panel bearing the national coat of arms from 1697.

Cultural history along trails and in museums

Kulturslingan is about 36 kilometres long, with around ten culturally and historically interesting sights signposted along the route. Those interested in the history of the municipality can learn more at the Svedala Museum. Its collection ranges from postcards to a stone crusher and includes objects associated with the municipality. The museum preserves and presents local history; visits can be arranged by email.

At Statarmuseet, the lives of agricultural labourers take centre stage in an authentic setting. The museum also offers a historic rural school, talks and guided tours, as well as historical days and the “Statarliv” workshop. Local history thus spans everything from a collection of objects connected to the region to a portrayal of working life.

The castles also tell stories of different eras. Torups slott has a history dating back to the 14th century; the present building was constructed in the mid-16th century. The castle park, which borders a beech forest, features garden designs from five centuries. Klågerups slott has its origins as a castle in the late 12th century. Skabersjö slott stands on an island surrounded by canals. Near Hyby Slott is Sweden’s only architect-designed stork platform, intended for annual nesting.

Nature reserves and hiking trails

There are seven nature reserves in Svedala Municipality. Hunneröds mosse och Frisbjär is both a nature reserve and a Natura 2000 site. The nutrient-poor bog is home to the bright blue marsh gentian and the also-blue marsh gentian butterfly. The latter is found in only a few places in Skåne. An unmarked path in the reserve leads to the wooded hill of Frisbjär.

The municipality has well-maintained hiking trails as part of the Östersjöleden and Skåneleden projects. Other trails connect to Skåneleden and Europaleden. There are also paths and circular routes for activities, running, horseback riding and walking, as well as indoor and outdoor exercise facilities. The approximately 36-kilometre-long Kulturslingan and the hiking trails offer different options when planning an outing by distance or theme; the signposted sights along Kulturslingan add a cultural focus.

Swimming spots with different facilities

Svedala friluftsbad is located in a green space in the centre of the Svedala urban area and has three pools. Seasonal access may vary. The facility is accessible, with features including accessible toilets, a ramp for entering the pools and shower chairs available to borrow.

The municipal natural swimming spot at Pudesjö has jetties, a diving tower and a small sandy beach. There are also changing rooms, toilets and barbecue areas. The two swimming spots therefore differ in their facilities: the friluftsbad has several pools and designated accessible facilities, while Pudesjö combines a natural swimming spot with jetties, a diving tower and a sandy beach.

Local life and getting around

SommarRock Svedala is one of Sweden’s oldest regularly held volunteer-run festivals. At REKO-Ring Svedala, raw ingredients and products are sold directly from producers to consumers. Both offer a glimpse of organised cultural activities and direct trade alongside the historic sights.

From Svedala Station, connections are available by train towards Ystad–Malmö and by regional bus routes 165, 141 and 145. The municipality’s transport information was updated in 2025; check the timetable before travelling.
