Skånes Fagerhult lies in a hilly, forested landscape with small plots of arable land and pasture. The village’s history includes its development along the railway and its former industry; the surrounding lakes, fishing and trails offer other points of interest.

Lakes, bathing area and fishing

The small Fagerhultasjön covers 4.0 hectares and lies within the settlement. Its water flows on into the adjacent Fedingesjön. The bathing area there has a bathing jetty, a toilet and a changing room. A bathing-water assessment carried out on 5 August 2026 rated Fedingesjön as “Tjänligt” (suitable). This rating applies to the date of the assessment; check for later results before swimming.

In the two lakes in Skånes Fagerhult, anglers can cast from the shore for pike hiding among the reeds. The lakes are surrounded by forest and have stands of reeds. You can also fish there for perch, bream, pike, carp, roach and eel. Carp must always be released.

From an old transport route to a railway and industrial community

Skånes Fagerhult has been documented in written sources since around 1500; at that time, the village consisted of a few farms and a church. The old transport route Kungsvägen passed through Fagerhult and ran between Helsingborg and Stockholm. In 1894, the village got a railway station called Fagerhult. The name was later changed to Skånes-Fagerhult to avoid confusion with other places called Fagerhult.

As the railway developed, a largely new settlement emerged within 50 years. The shops and houses along Kungsgatan reflect the development of an expanding railway and industrial community from the early to the mid-20th century. The medieval church was demolished because of its poor condition; a new church was inaugurated in 1900. In 1917, Konfektions Kompaniet AB established a textile factory in the village.

Iron production was an important source of income in the area around Fagerhult from the 12th to the 16th century. There are around sixty sites with slag from ironworking around Fagerhult and Värsjö. Another figure in local history is Bendt Mogensen, a Danish Snapphane leader from Skånes Fagerhult. He fought against Sweden in the wars of the mid-17th century.

Cycle path and trails in the surrounding area

A cycle path runs along the former railway embankment between Eket and Skånes Fagerhult. Some station houses have been preserved along the route. Here, a cycling connection meets visible traces of the former railway.

In the nearby area between Fedingshult, Höjalt and Sandhult, there are public forest trails for walking, cycling and horse riding. Conditions on these trails can vary depending on the season and weather. The Möllerundan also runs nearby along old, overgrown paths that have been used for generations.

At Junexvallen, volunteers occasionally prepare an outdoor ice rink for skating. Whether it is prepared depends on volunteer effort and ice conditions.
