Hörby lies between forest and plain in the Ringsjö area. The town features old road layouts, cultural history walks, recurring events and various ways to stay active. For planning a trip, it helps to distinguish between scheduled events, local history and the different routes, making it easy to organise your stay around your own interests.
Landscape and traces of the former village
The historic townscape of Hörby has largely preserved the old road layouts of the former farming village, including Råbygatan and S:t Olofsgatan. A church was built on the site of Hörby in the 12th century. Together with its location in the Ringsjö area and the transition landscape between forest and plain, this offers two perspectives on the town: its landscape setting and the visible lines of the older settlement. The street names provide concrete points of reference for the town’s history.
History on two walking tours
Two walking tours explore history and archival material in different ways. The Kultur-rundan in Karnas backe uses seven panels featuring stories and photographs from the Hörby Museum archive. In central Hörby, the historic walking tour features ten electrical cabinets decorated with older photographs from the same archive. Each electrical cabinet on the route that displays a photograph has a QR code linking to four related short documentary films. The distinction is practical: the Kultur-rundan presents stories and images on panels, while the tour in the town centre complements the photographs with digital films telling the stories. The two tours therefore offer different ways to engage with the archival material.
Two annual events with set dates
The dates are easy to distinguish if you are planning a visit for a specific occasion. Every May, Hörby Kulturkalas turns central Hörby into a lively cultural stage. It features singing and music, dance and art, with local talents performing alongside national stars. The individual programmes vary. Hörby Marknad takes place every year on the first Wednesday and Thursday in July and has been held for more than 270 consecutive years. It brings more than 400 traders, a funfair and a small-animal market to central Hörby. The number of traders may vary from one edition to another. These are two distinct cultural occasions to choose from: Kulturkalas in May and Marknad on the set weekdays in July.
Activity: circuits, mountain biking and a connecting route
Karnas backe has two illuminated activity circuits, each 1,000 metres long. Karnas backe is also where the Kultur-rundan is located. Those who want to combine physical activity with local history will therefore find two different options there. The circuits are short and have a clearly defined length; the Kultur-rundan adds panels featuring stories and archival photographs to the area.
Hörby MTB Arena offers an XCO course for mountain bike training and racing, with varied terrain and technical obstacles. Cycling at the arena requires an annual track fee of 100 kronor or membership in Hörby Cykelklubb. Warning arrows and alternative routes indicate technical challenges. This offers a different focus from the activity circuits: here, the emphasis is on an XCO course, terrain and obstacles.
Another option is the new cycling and walking route between Hörby and Ludvigsborg. It passes through Fulltofta strövområde and is open to everyday cyclists, athletes, families and visitors. The options therefore differ in nature: short illuminated activity circuits, an XCO course for training and racing, or a route between two towns that passes through a strövområde.
