Deep forests, open clearings, pastureland and heath alternate in the Fulltofta recreation area. There are also ancient oaks, ponds and small streams. This expansive natural landscape is a defining feature of Hörby and offers plenty of reasons to explore the area on foot, by bike or by following its cultural heritage.

Fulltofta: trails through nature and history

Fulltofta has fourteen marked hiking trails. Routes include Vasahusslingan, Dansbanerundan, Sjömossen and Magnhilds runda. If you want to compare distances, Olofs is an eight-kilometre hiking loop through natural areas with numerous cultural and historical traces. Pickelhattakroken is a seven-kilometre loop near the Fjällmossen nature reserve. Ravinslingan is suitable for wheelchairs and prams.

The landscape itself also tells the story of its long history of use: Fulltofta has prehistoric fields, as well as stone-clearance cairns and cultivation cairns dating from the Stone Age; many are marked on the area map. Fulltofta-Häggenäs is one of the nature reserves within the recreation area. A special connection between place and tradition can be found south of Fulltofta Nature Centre: the S:ta Magnhilds källa spring is associated with S:ta Magnhild, considered one of Skåne’s most important local saints.

The stork enclosure in Fulltofta is a 2,500-square-metre flight aviary with nesting sites and around thirty pairs of storks. Alongside the forests and wetlands, it offers another distinctive aspect of the area for anyone interested in nature and wildlife.

Active pursuits in the municipality

Karnas backe has illuminated fitness and running trails. The Kultur-rundan there passes seven boards featuring stories and archival photographs about the area’s past. Exercise and local history meet on the same circular route; Karnas backe also has an 18-hole disc golf course.

The municipality of Hörby offers two riding loops of about 16 kilometres each, as well as a 40-kilometre riding and driving trail. There is also a mountain bike trail and a riding trail in the area around Fulltofta Nature Centre. Hörby MTB Arena is an XCO mountain bike course with varied terrain and technical obstacles. For a longer route, consider the 43-kilometre Banvallsled: it runs between Hörby, Tollarp and Kristianstad on asphalt and gravel paths, passing old station houses and railway cottages.

Park trails and culture in Hörby

In Hörby, the Hörbyån runs the entire length of Ringsjöparken. The park combines green spaces and open areas with perennial flower beds and walking paths. The Erik Myrgrens promenadstråk also starts there and leads to Nygatan. The river, the park’s design and a named trail offer different perspectives for a stroll, without requiring a long walk.

Fulltofta Nature Centre offers information about hiking, maps, nature exhibitions, a café and meeting rooms. The café serves homemade lunches, fika, and filled or savoury sandwiches. Regional bus 469, which connects Höör and Hörby, stops at the Nature Centre on weekends. Bus 470, which runs daily, stops along road 13. From the “Ramstorp Fulltofta” stop, the path leads directly to the red loop; from there, it is about 1.5 kilometres to the Nature Centre. Check current timetables before travelling.

Events can also be part of your travel plans. The two-day Hörby Marknad is a July tradition dating back to 1748. Its programme includes more than 400 market stalls, music, a fairground, a food street and a small-animal market. Hörby Kulturkalas takes place every May and features music, dance, art, and performances by local and national artists. If you plan to visit for either festival, check that the dates match your travel period.

Museums and more to discover

The Ola Ols Museum in Killhult has more than 3,000 objects; its collections span the 18th century to the present day. Visitor facilities include a ramp and an accessible toilet. The old country store museum in Önneköp preserves the shop fittings and some goods, in some cases very old, left behind when the shop closed in 1982. Arnolds Kannibalmuseum in Önneköp has a very different focus: this curiosity museum displays artefacts from around the world. Check the current opening arrangements before visiting.

Other attractions in Hörby include Lågedammsbadet, with indoor pools and an outdoor pool in summer. The complex also has a sauna, a hot tub, a children’s pool and a water slide. The range of things to discover extends from marked nature trails and historical traces to parks, events and a variety of leisure activities.
