Åkarp combines cultural history with leisure activities to suit a range of interests. At Kulturhuset Möllegården, the library, exhibitions, workshop and cultural events come together; other locations focus on sports and play. You can tailor your stay to the subjects that interest you most.
Culture and History in Åkarp
Kulturhuset Möllegården is a cultural centre in Åkarp. It offers a library, exhibitions, a working workshop and cultural events. The collections of Charlotte Weibull are also part of what it offers today. This provides several ways to engage with culture: you can take exhibitions, collections, the workshop and events into account when planning your visit.
Möllegården includes a garden laid out by master gardener Bengt Kjellsson in 1886. It once had 103 varieties of roses. Möllegården’s place as one of the original farms in old Åkarp is also part of the local history. Åkarp’s mill, meanwhile, is mentioned as early as 1673 as “Vaedermöllen ved Aagerup”.
At the corner of Alnarpsvägen and Möllevägen, slight remains of the once well-known passage grave Ågarpe backe can still be seen. Another historic building is the Gymnastikhuset at Hvilan: built in 1884, it is now the oldest surviving building of its kind in Sweden. These places offer different perspectives—from the garden and the history of old Åkarp to surviving traces and a distinctive building.
Sports and Outdoor Activities
The multisport arena at Dalslundskolan offers facilities for football, basketball, parkour and floorball. Åkarps idrottsplats can be booked separately for football, rugby, cricket, athletics, sports days and competitions. If you are planning any of these activities, check booking options in advance if needed.
Outdoor activities for children and young people are also on offer in Åkarp: the Åkarp branch of Friluftsfrämjandet offers, among other things, Skogsmulle and the TVM adventure group. Participation requirements may change, so check the latest details directly with the organisation.
