Skedevi offers several different reasons to visit: the landscape by Lake Tisnaren, archaeological sites and a cultural environment with settlement and land-use continuity dating back to prehistoric times. There are also activities organised by the local heritage association, from its annual summer café in July to guided tours on request. When planning your visit, consider whether you want to focus on the nature reserve and its boat access, specific archaeological features or the broader history of settlement.

By Lake Tisnaren and in the nature reserve

Skedevi Church is located on the shore of Lake Tisnaren. The Prästängsudden Nature Reserve lies northeast of the church, in its immediate surroundings. It is also by Lake Tisnaren and includes one of the largest continuous areas of broadleaf forest in northern Östergötland. The best way to reach Prästängsudden is by boat from Lake Tisnaren. The lake is therefore both a geographical reference point and the starting point for travelling to this area. The church and the nature reserve offer different points of interest on the same lake: the church is defined by its lakeside location, while Prästängsudden also offers woodland and access by boat.

Archaeological features and scale

Valleräng’s stone circle and the Husby burial ground can be distinguished by their different features. Valleräng’s stone circle is about 12 metres in diameter and consists of twelve large stones, each about 90 centimetres high. The diameter refers to the entire structure, while the height refers to individual stones: the measurements describe both the scale of the whole and its components. The Husby burial ground offers a different point of interest: it includes thirteen circular stone settings and two round burial mounds. Here, the features differ in shape and number, while Valleräng is described in approximate measurements. Some remains of Kalehäll hillfort are still preserved; from there, you can enjoy a view across Lake Tisnaren. At Kalehäll, the surviving remains and the view across the lake offer different points of interest from the measurements and types of structures found at the other sites.

Cultural landscape and activities

The Skedevi cultural environment offers another perspective on the area’s history. Its defining features are an agricultural landscape, a parish centre and village settlement areas; together, they demonstrate continuity of settlement and land use dating back to prehistoric times. History here can therefore be viewed on two levels: through specific sites and through the long-term use of an agricultural and settlement landscape.

Skedevi Church offers a visual online tour. If you are interested, check whether the tour is available before opening it.

The Skedevi Hembygdsförening holds its annual summer café on Sunday afternoons in July, where visitors can see collected objects. Check the specific event dates before travelling. The association also organises guided tours of the local heritage site on request. The difference is important for planning: the café follows an annual schedule in July, while tours are organised on request.
