Kilsmo connects cycling routes with water access to the Sotterns Archipelago Nature Reserve. This gives you different options when planning your trip: cycling and nature by the lake. The Brevensleden runs from Lännäs to Brevens Bruk via Kilsmo; from the boat jetties in the village, you can reach the nature reserve by water. Cycling and access to the landscape around Sottern thus offer two different ways to plan your stay.

Cycling around Kilsmo

At Solbergabadet, outside Kilsmo, there are three mountain bike trails ranging from 4 to 9 kilometres. Seasonal conditions on the trails can vary. The volunteer association Kilsmo IK develops and maintains the trails. Signs at Solbergabadet show the length and difficulty of the marked trails there. When choosing a trail on site, you can therefore take both its length and its indicated difficulty into account.

The Brevensleden offers another way to find your bearings: it runs from Lännäs to Brevens Bruk, passing through Kilsmo. At the Ringsbergsleden near Kilsmo, there are cycling trails of varying difficulty. The two options can be considered according to different criteria: for the Brevensleden, the route between the named places is relevant, while the Ringsbergsleden offers a choice of difficulty levels. So consider whether a particular route or a choice based on difficulty is more important to you.

In winter, the Kilsmo elljusspĂĄr can offer a way to enjoy nature and stay active when snow conditions are good. If you are considering a winter trip, plan around the snow conditions.

Water access and nature at Sottern

From the boat jetties in Kilsmo, the easiest way to reach the Sotterns Archipelago Nature Reserve is by water. Seasonal restrictions apply in parts of the nature reserve. Take these into account when planning and check the conditions relevant to your visit.

More than 100 bird species breed in Lake Sottern. In many of the nature reserve’s islands, the underlying bedrock is exposed; pine is the most common tree species there. This brings together the lake’s birdlife and the geological features of the islands, where pine is the most common tree species. These different aspects of nature may influence your choice if you are particularly interested in birds or the island landscape.

When to visit and finding accommodation

When looking for accommodation in Kilsmo, it is best to first decide which activity you want to shape your stay and what time of year you would like to travel. For cycling, trail length, route or difficulty may be decisive; for the Sotterns Archipelago, access by water is another consideration. The winter option at the elljusspĂĄr depends on good snow conditions, and seasonal restrictions apply to parts of the nature reserve.
